Student answer (Band 5.5)

In present most of students are willing to do self studies rather than attend a formal classes. English is one main subject they willing to study it by them selfs because they are very shy to use english in public therefore some students choose this path. But in different situations it may be difficult to learn english by own.

Learning english independently is one of interesting thing. It means students no need to stuctured works or done same home works repeatly. To improve english by self students may use different tips. They can do it while enjoying the life. As a example to improve and learn english they can watch english movies with english subtitles or they can read story books. These activities may improve students knowledge and they did not get bored with it. With these they can improve there vocabulary, speaking skills and thinking pattern. I think when someone can enjoy what they are doing they can learn and memorise more than boaring paper works.

In the other hand sometimes they cannot learn what they actually need with self studies. Students may need to learn grammer and prooper formal writing types also they need to train them selfs toooo learn english beacause practice make more perferct in english for the students who is english is not their first language. To study above theoritical areas students may need teaching assistant. Then they can solve their issues with teachers and get advice to improve themselfs.

In conclusion, I agree with the idea that students find difficlut to manage studies without assistant of teacher. Students need to get a assistant of a teacher and also they had to do self studies to improve their knowledge. With that they can achieve what they expect. This is more than formal course it is combination of both ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of independent English study versus formal classes, ultimately agreeing that students find it difficult to manage studies without a teacher. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The main ideas, such as enjoying movies and reading books to improve vocabulary and speaking skills, are relevant and extended with simple examples. However, some arguments remain somewhat generalised and lack deep development, which places the response comfortably at Band 6.0. The writer covers all parts of the task satisfactorily, but the depth of explanation for both sides of the argument is somewhat limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an adequate overall arrangement. Logical progression is attempted; for instance, the writer transitions from independent learning benefits to the necessity of teachers using phrases like 'In the other hand' and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is often mechanical and faulty, with referencing issues ('with these', 'tooo learn english beacause') and awkward transitional phrases. Paragraphing is used, but internal flow is occasionally disrupted by limited cohesive devices, placing this criterion at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the basic message, featuring some attempts at less common items such as 'independently', 'memorise', and 'theoritical areas'. However, there are numerous noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'self studies' instead of 'self-study', 'boaring' instead of 'boring', 'difficlut' instead of 'difficult', and 'assistant' instead of 'assistance'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0, as the range is limited and inaccuracies are frequent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional-like statements and relative clauses ('students who is english is not their first language'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('most of students are', 'students no need'), punctuation, and preposition use ('study it by them selfs'). Punctuation slips and spelling interference also occur. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, particularly in complex structures, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
