IELTS Writing Task 2 question

A huge number of students choose to study English independently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

English is now become an universal language so it is important for students to learn about the English language. Most of the students pick to prepare English language independently on a self-study as those students do not want to attend a formal course. Nevertheless, the assistance of teacher is require to manage their studies. I do not agree with this statement that the students require help of teacher for their study. Students can easily prepare their study independently.

Nowadays, the internet has vast availability in the learning section. Student can learn English language anytime and anywhere with the help of the internet. Students can fit English learning around their work, college or other responsibilities. As the help of the internet, students can spend more time on their weak areas, for example, a student who struggles with vocabulary can spend extra hour to prepare some new words instead of following the fix pace of a classroom.

Secondly, Students can access wide range of learning platforms such as YouTube, Google and other Websites also. These platforms give vast range of materials, tests and online lectures. Students can choose their resources according to their level and interest.

Conversely, the assistance of a teacher gives immediate feedback to the students and also help to improve their mistakes in the learning. Teachers can do the watch on their studies so their is a less chance of distraction from their studies.

To conclude, studying of English independently on a self is now become easy with the help of the internet and students can easily learn from anywhere and anytime.

However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'English is now become an universal language', 'vast availability in the learning section', and 'fix pace'. There are also minor spelling and phrasing slips like 'an universal' instead of 'a universal' and 'their is' instead of 'there is'. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the response to achieve a Band 6.
