Student answer (Band 6.0)
A general trend has been observed among students to study independently since the technology revolution. However, many students find it difficut to manage everything on their own without the aid of a proper instructor.I would definitely agree with this point of view.
Nowadays, internet is flooded with english learning material, handbooks, video lectures and AI instructors to guide you from simple daily life english tenses usage to complex sentence structures.Although they do quite enough for a beginner to get handful of learning experience, the need for a physical tutor is always there.Students ususally misunderstand certain behaviour and continue doing that as no one is there to rectify them.If they get stuck over some problem, they either try to skip it at all or develop a wrong pereption just to satisfy their soul instead of brainstorming or searching its answer over the internet.Despite having good quantity of language learning resources, they are not able to choose what material would be suitable for their level.
This is not the case in formal physical classes.Regular lectures are taught by professional teachers and they contain well established content to take students from beginner to advance level. From simple sentenses to compound sentences and complex english idioms eveything comes under the guidance of a teaching assistant. You are being checked for your mistakes and advised accordingly. So following this course of action, learners get better day by day.Having the presence of competitor fellows students is a plus point to push you further ahead of your learning capacilities.
To put whole discussion in simple words,we are able to conclude that self study is quite helpful but with proper formal course. If combined they can produce remarkable results. However,if we are to choose one of them, formal mode of classes have always produced better results than study by ourselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses all parts of the task by discussing the difficulties of self-study and expressing a firm agreement with the prompt. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant arguments, such as the lack of error correction in independent study and the structured guidance provided by formal classes. For instance, the writer notes that students 'misunderstand certain behaviour and continue doing that as no one is there to rectify them.' However, some points tend to over-generalise slightly regarding AI and self-study resources. Overall, the task is addressed well, matching the requirements of a Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into four paragraphs, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing self-study drawbacks and formal class benefits, followed by a conclusion. Cohesive devices and referencing are generally well managed, such as 'Nowadays,' 'Although,' and 'This is not the case.' However, some mechanical errors in spacing and punctuation occur, such as missing spaces after periods and commas (e.g., 'revolution. However,' and 'experience, the need'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the management of internal sentence-level cohesion could be smoother. This places the performance firmly at Band 6.5, which rounds to 6.0 based on standard half-band increments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'technology revolution,' 'rectify them,' and 'professional teachers.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'difficut' instead of difficult, 'handful of learning experience' instead of a wealth of experience, and 'pereption' instead of perception. Furthermore, collocations like 'competitor fellows students' are unnatural. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate limitations that prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical resource aligns well with a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses using 'although,' 'if,' and 'since.' There are, however, frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including missing spaces after punctuation marks, missing articles (e.g., 'internet is flooded'), and awkward verb forms (e.g., 'You are being checked'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is rarely impeded. The control of grammar shows a mixture of correct complex structures alongside persistent basic slips, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.
