Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and establishes a clear personal position regarding independent versus teacher-led study. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the perceived confidence and flexibility of self-studying, and the benefits of discipline, practical references, and immediate error correction provided by teachers. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for example, the exploration of why students feel more confident when studying independently remains somewhat superficial and relies on general assertions rather than detailed extension. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need to be thoroughly elaborated and supported with deeper explanations and more specific examples throughout the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, thereby addressing the prompt logically. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear, particularly in how sentences within paragraphs link together. For instance, the transition between ideas in the second paragraph feels abrupt, and cohesive devices are occasionally over-used or omitted entirely where they are needed to guide the reader smoothly. Paragraphing is used, but the internal logical progression within the paragraphs lacks seamless flow. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure that each sentence clearly connects to the central theme of its paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'mandatory', 'diverse vision', and 'formal environment'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that occasionally recur, such as 'populatouin', 'Additionaly', 'flawa', and 'refrences'. While these inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, they limit precision and style. Furthermore, some collocations are awkward, such as 'take teachers assistance'. To achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to incorporate a more flexible range of lexical items with greater control over spelling, word formation, and natural phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary grammatical structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including comma splices and run-on sentences, such as 'I strongly disagree with learning english on your own,I believe teachers assistance is mandatory', and minor issues with article usage and prepositions. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains generally clear. To move up to the next band, the writer must demonstrate better control over complex sentence patterns and punctuation, producing a higher frequency of error-free sentences while avoiding frequent comma splices.
