Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and tangentially, failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words by stopping abruptly at just 102 words. While the writer attempts to introduce a position regarding independent study versus teacher-led courses, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. The text touches on the advantages of technology in independent learning, such as 'numerals online platforms available', but it breaks off mid-sentence in the second paragraph before fully addressing the prompt's nuances or providing a rounded discussion. To improve, the writer must ensure the essay reaches the required length, fully develops a clear position through extended arguments, and addresses all parts of the prompt in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation present, with an introductory sentence and the beginnings of a body paragraph, but the essay lacks an overall progression due to its extreme brevity. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'However, I agree with the formar view with the joint efforts of technology', which makes the logical relationship between sentences slightly strained. Paragraphing is attempted, but the response cuts off prematurely. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to structure the essay with a clear introduction, fully developed body paragraphs that logically flow from one to the next, and a proper conclusion, using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader seamlessly through the arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used represents a limited but minimally adequate range for the task. The writer attempts some less common lexical items, such as 'inextricable role' and 'advancement of technology', but makes noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice, including 'numerals online platforms' instead of numerous and 'formar' instead of former. These errors and the restricted vocabulary size mean the range remains basic. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary range, ensuring correct word forms and spellings, and employing more precise collocations suited to academic writing, such as 'online platforms' or 'digital resources'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, relying mostly on simple sentence forms alongside faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader, such as agreement and article issues in 'Undoubtedly ,English play an inextricable role in every students life' and preposition or structural errors in 'learning English themselves'. Punctuation spacing before commas is also inconsistent. To move up, the writer must demonstrate a better control of basic grammatical structures, such as subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, while successfully incorporating a wider variety of error-free complex sentences.
