Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt minimally, presenting a clear position of agreement, but ideas are inadequately developed with repetitive and simplistic arguments. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains 249 words, falling one word short of the 250-word minimum (excluding 14 words copied directly from the prompt). While the writer attempts to provide reasons regarding time management and exam results, the examples given lack specific detail and rely heavily on generalisations such as "i saw many students" and "one schoalr study independently." To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop their ideas with more extended explanations and concrete examples, while ensuring the minimum word count is comfortably exceeded.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response shows some basic organisation with paragraph breaks and simple transition markers like "First reason is," "second reason is," and "In conclusion." However, there is no clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by repetitive statements and unclear referencing. Pronouns are often misused or vague, such as referring to multiple students with singular pronouns like "He prepares" and "his study." Cohesive devices are mechanical and over-used rather than naturally integrated. To improve cohesion and progress to the next level, the writer needs to logically sequence ideas with smoother transitions, use referencing correctly to maintain clarity across sentences, and avoid circular arguments that repeat the same points without advancing the discourse.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms such as "students," "teacher," "study," and "independent" throughout the text. There are numerous spelling errors, including "schoalrs," "Crusial," "guaidence," and "acheive," alongside lexical inaccuracies such as "good numbers" instead of high scores or good grades. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for conveying very simple meaning, but noticeable errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common academic vocabulary, improve word choice and collocation, and eliminate recurrent spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural flaws. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as "learners often it difficult," "one student whose study with teacher," and "without the assistance of a teacher, learners difficult to manage." Complex sentence structures are rarely attempted, and when they are, they are often faulty. Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as lowercase "i," are also noticeable. To move up, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with good control over grammar, reducing basic structural errors that frequently strain comprehension.
