Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many students prefer to study English by themselves rather than attending a formal course, while others believe that students might find it difficult to manage their academic tasks without the assistance of a teacher. I strongly agree with this view that it is challenging for students to manage their studies without the help of a teacher mainly because teachers can help students to manage their time effectively.
The main reason I agree with this statement is that a teacher plays an important role to assist students. This is primarily because teachers can facilitate students to understand difficult concepts of English. For example, a student during self-study may struggle to understand some topics such as linguistics. Moreover, it is hard for students to pronounce various words, which a teacher can help to improve the pronunciation of a student. Therefore, it is essential to study English with the help of a tutor.
Another compelling reason is that a teacher can facilitate a student to make a time table that is helpful for time management. Many students waste time due to various distractions like mobile phones, so they may not be able to focus properly on their studies. For instance, if a student choose to study English independently, he may not be able to manage time effectively. Furthermore, there is no checks and balances for students who study independently, which may affect their academic performance. Consequently, teachers play a significant role to help students in their studies.
In conclusion, I firmly agree with this view because teachers can assist students to manage their time and understand the difficult concepts. For these reasons, I believe that teachers are very important to learn and understand a subject properly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that students can struggle without a teacher, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including help with difficult English concepts, pronunciation, and time management, with examples such as distractions from mobile phones. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not developed equally: the discussion of pronunciation and “linguistics” is brief, and the time-management example largely repeats the claim rather than showing its consequences in detail. To strengthen the response, explain how teacher guidance leads to better learning outcomes and acknowledge, even briefly, that independent study can suit some learners before explaining why you still agree overall. The position is clear, but some supporting ideas need fuller development and precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from understanding English to managing study time is easy to follow, and signposts such as “The main reason,” “Another compelling reason,” and “In conclusion” help readers navigate the argument. However, cohesion is somewhat mechanical because several sentences begin with formulaic transitions, including “Moreover,” “Therefore,” and “Consequently.” Some links also repeat rather than advance the reasoning: the final sentence of each body paragraph restates the importance of teachers. Improve progression by connecting each example directly to its claim and varying how ideas are linked. The reference in “which may affect their academic performance” could also be made more explicit about what “which” refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “facilitate,” “distractions,” “pronunciation,” and “academic performance.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the response includes some topic-specific language. However, several phrases are imprecise or awkwardly collocated, such as “facilitate students to understand,” “facilitate a student to make a time table,” and “there is no checks and balances.” Repetition of “teacher,” “students,” and “manage” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural combinations, such as “help students understand,” “draw up a study timetable,” and “there are no checks and balances.” More precise vocabulary would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled, while retaining the clear meaning already achieved.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “if.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical slips remain, however. For example, “if a student choose” needs subject–verb agreement (“chooses”), and “there is no checks and balances” has a number-agreement problem (“there are no checks and balances”). The opening sentence also needs a space after the comma, and the comma before “which” in “distractions like mobile phones, so they may not” should be replaced with a semicolon or full stop to avoid joining independent clauses incorrectly. Continue checking agreement and punctuation, and use a wider range of sentence patterns with consistent accuracy.
