Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries, a large number of students prefer to study English independently on a self-study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the guidance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies. I partially agree with this view because teachers help students to develop a strong foundation for a language and provide a roadmap to follow but at the same time, children from poor financial background can be affect from this method and a self-study prevents students from wasting a huge amount of money.
Firstly, the assistance from a tutor helps students to develop strong basics for studies. A student can learn basic grammar from a faculty, which is the core foundation for learning any language. Thus, teachers help students to learn faster. Additionally, teachers can also provide a roadmap that helps students to manage their studies. For example, a teacher can provide weekly plans to a student, which encourage them to achieve their goals and manage their studies.
On the other hand, this method can affect students who come from poor financial background. This is because these students may face difficulties by paying a huge amount of tuition fee charged by a teacher. As a result, this belief can harm these students and prevent them from studying. Moreover, many recorded vidoes and study materials are freely available on online sources, which can be beneficial for students. Children can make use of these sources and may even save a huge amount of money charged by teachers.
In conclusion, I partially agree that without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage studies because teachers help students to build a strong foundation of a language and provide them a roadmap to follow. However, hiring a teacher can affect students with a poor financial condition. Also, study materials are freely available on online sources which can help students to save money. I believe that some students can learn from online sources which are freely available, while others can hire a teacher.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partially agree, recognising that teachers provide foundations and study plans while self-study can reduce costs. You address both sides and give relevant support, including weekly plans and freely available online materials. However, the financial point is developed more fully than the claim that independent learners struggle to manage their studies; the essay could explain more specifically how a teacher diagnoses gaps or keeps learners on track. The conclusion restates the main points but does not fully resolve when self-study is likely to work well versus when teacher support is needed. Develop these distinctions and support them with a more specific example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The sequence from teachers’ benefits to the cost of tuition is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help readers navigate the argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and references are occasionally unclear. For example, “this method” in the second body paragraph could refer to teacher-led study or the approach described earlier. The conclusion repeats several phrases from the introduction rather than synthesising the argument. Use more precise references and connect each example directly to the point it supports to create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “foundation,” “roadmap,” “tuition fee” and “study materials,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision. “Children from poor financial background can be affect from this method” is awkward and unclear; “students from low-income backgrounds may be disadvantaged by the cost” would be more natural. “Recorded vidoes” contains a spelling error, and “available on online sources” is an inaccurate collocation. Repeated use of “huge amount of money” and “help students” also makes the vocabulary less flexible. Aim for accurate collocations and vary repeated expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including clauses with “because,” “which” and “while,” and most sentences communicate the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “students from poor financial background” needs an article or plural form, and “can be affect from this method” has an incorrect verb form and construction. In “a teacher can provide weekly plans to a student, which encourage them,” the relative clause has an unclear reference and agreement. The final sentence also shifts between “some students” and “others” without clearly specifying the conditions. Review articles, passive verb forms and subject–verb agreement, and check that relative clauses clearly refer to the intended noun.
