Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many students prefar to learn English by themselves at home instead of joining a classroom or language center. In my opinion, I completely agree that studying without a teacher make it very difficult for students to manage their learning.

On the one hand, english indepandetly have some benefits. For example, students can save lot of money because there courses fees are very expensive today. Also they can chose their own time to study, like late night and early morning. They can search many free videos on YouTube or download mobile apps to practice grammar and vocabulary. Therefore, many people think self-study is very convenient for their busy life.

On other hand, , a teacher can provide a good study plan and guide students step-by-step. Without this guidance, learners often feel confuse about what to study first, like whether to focus on reading or speaking. This make them feel lose motivation quickly and give up their study. Without a real teacher to check their homework or test them, many students become lazy and spend time on social media instead of studying. Secondly, self-learners cannot correct their own mistakes, specially in speaking and writing.

In conclusion, although self-study is cheap and flexible, I strongly agree that it is very tough to manage English learning without a proper teacher. Having a mentor is necessary to get better results and stay focused.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that managing English study without a teacher is difficult. You address both sides by acknowledging that self-study is affordable and flexible, then explaining how a teacher can provide structure, maintain motivation and correct errors. These are relevant reasons, but some are only briefly developed: for example, the point about learners becoming distracted by social media would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of its effect on progress. The response also falls 21 words short of the required 250-word minimum. Add a little more explanation or a relevant example to develop your main reasons and meet the task requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on the benefits of self-study, a contrasting paragraph on its difficulties, and a conclusion that restates your view. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the second body paragraph moves quickly between planning, motivation, distractions and correction without fully connecting these points. The repeated use of “Without” also makes the progression less smooth. Develop a clearer sequence—for example, explain first how a teacher provides direction, then how feedback supports improvement—and use referencing or varied transitions to link the ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “study plan,” “motivation,” “vocabulary,” and “correct their own mistakes.” There are also attempts at useful phrases such as “step-by-step” and “stay focused.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “prefar,” “indepandetly,” “chose,” and “feel confuse.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “courses fees” and “manage English learning.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit precision and control. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for education, such as “course fees,” “manage their studies,” and “lose motivation.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and some more complex forms, including a contrast with “although” in the conclusion and a reason introduced by “because.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “studying without a teacher make” needs subject–verb agreement, while “there courses fees” has an incorrect possessive form. In “This make them feel lose motivation,” the verb forms and sentence structure need correction; a clearer version is “This makes them lose motivation.” There is also a punctuation error in “On other hand, ,”. Practise agreement, verb patterns after “make,” and possessives, then proofread punctuation to improve accuracy while retaining varied sentence forms.
