Student answer (Band 4.5)

self-study is really good i think you never be good in studys if you never do self-study. self-study is greate think to do but completly skiping your formal course is not right thing to do because what will you do if you have a problem or douth.in the world of AI student think they do not need teacher but the thing is AI tells you what you ask AI . But a teacher tell you what you need because he have exprience . Teacher always know what you do wrong because every student repeat some same mistake most of the time. accoriding to me self-study and a fomal class both are important for us . If student asking for a self-study basis maybe they are not enjoying formal course . Teachers should try to be friends with student so that students can enjoy learning .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You give a relevant, recognisable position: self-study is valuable, but it should not replace formal teaching. The points about teachers identifying repeated mistakes and helping students with problems address the topic, and the suggestion that teachers make classes more enjoyable adds a related idea. However, the response only minimally develops these points: there is no specific example or explanation of how a teacher’s guidance improves learning, and the discussion of AI is brief. The response is also 105 words below the required minimum, so it does not provide enough development to address the task fully. Extend your position with clear reasons and a relevant example, and explain the extent to which you agree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has a basic line of thought: it values self-study, argues that formal teaching is also needed, and ends with a suggestion for teachers. Some links are made with words such as “but” and “because,” which help show contrast and reason. However, the ideas are presented as one continuous block, with no paragraphing to separate the position, supporting reasons, and conclusion. The progression is also difficult to follow in places, particularly where the discussion shifts from self-study to AI and then to teachers’ experience. Use separate paragraphs and organise each around one main point; connect them with clear, accurate transitions and refer back to your central position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You communicate the main topic using a small range of relevant words and phrases, including “self-study,” “formal course,” “teacher,” “experience,” and “mistake.” Some choices, such as “manage their studies” (not used) aside, the response does attempt to express ideas about independent learning and teacher support. However, vocabulary is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “studys,” “greate,” “douth,” and “exprience.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “good thing to do” and “what you need.” Build a more accurate range for discussing learning, for example “study independently,” “receive guidance,” and “identify recurring errors,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example, “self-study is a great thing to do but completely skipping your formal course is not the right thing to do because…”. This shows some ability to express contrast and reasons. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors in basic forms occur frequently: “you never be good” needs a suitable verb form, while “he have experience” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Articles and plurals are also often missing or inaccurate, as in “a teacher” and “students.” Punctuation is weak, with sentences running together after “douth.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using conjunctions, while checking verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
