Student answer (Band 6.5)
A large sum of student studys English on thier own instead of enrolling in a classes. Nevertheless, it is often harder to learn the language without proper guidance of a teacher. In my opinion, having a supervisor who look onto the process will help the learning smoother and easier, but English is consider to be a language that can be improved and understand on own as well.
On one hand, with increase in availability of resources and accessibility one can learn the language on their own on their own time and pace. With access to online materials, including education videos, lectures, practice exercise and online dictionary, learner can develop their language skill without spending money on formal course. For example, student perparing for IELTS examination such as speaking and writing can have access to past questions and can learn following online videos. However, self- study of only effective to disciplined learners who can identify their weaknesses and monitor their own progress.
On the other hand, studying without professional guidance can create several challenges. Firstly, students may struggle to identify their grammatical errors or distinguish between natural and unnatural expressions, particularly when practicing writing and speaking, A qualified teacher can provide personalized feedback and explain how to improve, Secondly, independent learners may find it difficult to establish a structured study plan or remain motivated over an extended period. In contrast, formal courses usually provide a clear curriculum, regular assessmants and deadlines that encourage students to make consistent progess.
In conclusion, although independent English learning can be effective for motivated students with access to suitable resources, I believe that the absence of a teacher can make it more challenging to identify weeknesses and maintain consistent progess, Therefore, combining self-study with occasional professional guidance may be the most effective approach for many learners.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your response addresses both sides of the issue and gives a clear, consistent position: teacher guidance makes learning easier, although self-study can work for motivated learners. The discussion is relevant and supported with examples, such as using online IELTS materials and receiving personalised feedback from a teacher. You also reach a practical conclusion by recommending a combination of self-study and occasional guidance. To develop the response further, extend some points with more specific explanation. For instance, you mention that independent learners need discipline and must identify weaknesses, but you could explain what difficulties arise when they misjudge their progress. This would make the support more fully developed rather than relying on broad claims.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs compare self-study with formal instruction, and the conclusion restates your position. Topic sentences such as “On one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, while “Firstly” and “In contrast” help signal relationships between ideas. The main improvement is to make linking and punctuation more controlled. In the second body paragraph, “Firstly” and “Secondly” are followed by comma splices, which interrupt the flow between claims and explanations. There is also some repetition in “on their own on their own time and pace.” More precise connections between each example and its point would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “availability of resources,” “personalized feedback,” “structured study plan,” and “consistent progress.” These phrases help you discuss both independent learning and formal courses clearly. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “a large sum of student,” “look onto the process,” and “make the learning smoother.” Spelling errors, including “thier,” “perparing,” “assessmants,” and “weeknesses,” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit the precision and naturalness of the language. Aim to check spelling and learn common word partnerships as complete phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although independent English learning can be effective…” and a relative clause in “students who can identify their weaknesses.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “student studys English” has problems with number and verb agreement, while “a language that can be improved and understand” does not maintain a consistent verb form. Articles and plurals are also sometimes inaccurate, as in “in a classes” and “learner can develop.” Punctuation needs attention where separate clauses are joined with commas, particularly after “speaking” and “improve” in the second body paragraph. More careful editing of agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries would improve control.
