Student answer (Band 6.0)
An increasing number of students choose to study English independently through the use of media and self-help books. Without a formal assistance from a teacher, learners find it difficult to mange their studies. Thus, This self-study often results in a failure. I strongly agree with this idea and believe that learning a new language needs proper guidence.
In this digital world everything is avalible online. Often students believe that thay can just use that data and learn English. However, learning a language requires a proper sturcture. As students are uncustomed of the concept they are unaware of these structures. Consequently, concepts sounds more complex then they actully are. For instance, an experienced tutor of English follows a proper outline and teach English in a proper structure. Furthermore, statistics shows that, non-native learners of English faces different problems according to their native language. For example, in urdu language a stracture of subject, object and verb is followed. Thus, these students find it difficult ot follow a subject, verb and object structure of English language. A professional teacher is well-awared of these differences and provides a structured and individual guide for each student according to their problems.
Additionally, self-study often fails due to lack of motivation. Recent research shows that alot of self-study students stops learning English due to lack of motivation often caused by distraction. As on self-study basis students act as their own mentor, often distraction leads to procastination. This consistent procastination can lead to forgetting some concepts and thus leading to more problems. For instance, if a student contine learning English after a gap, he or she would need to revise already learned concepts. Thus, leading to a wastage of time and energy.
To sum up, I believe that learning a language independently leads to numerous problems. Thus, it is of paramount importance that one should join a formal course and learn English under the guidence of a proper teacher.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I strongly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the question with two relevant reasons: teachers provide structure and individual guidance, while independent learners may lose motivation. The examples about Urdu word order and needing to revise after a study gap help explain these points, so the response is more than a list of opinions. To strengthen the response further, develop the evidence behind broad claims such as “statistics shows” and “Recent research shows”: identify what the evidence indicates or use a specific, clearly framed example instead. The discussion of motivation could also explain more directly how a teacher or course helps students maintain progress.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. The progression from the need for structured instruction to the problem of motivation is logical, and signposts such as “However,” “Additionally,” and “To sum up” help readers follow it. This shows sound organisation, with some flexibility in linking ideas. At times, though, connections become mechanical or unclear: “Thus, leading to a wastage of time and energy” is a fragment, and repeated uses of “Thus” and “For instance” make the links feel formulaic. Improve cohesion by integrating consequences into complete sentences and using clearer references when moving from a general point to an example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “structured,” “motivation,” “distraction,” and “procrastination,” and phrases such as “individual guide” show an attempt to express specific ideas. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “mange,” “guidence,” “sturcture,” “uncustomed,” and “procastination.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “a formal assistance” and “a wastage of time and energy.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main argument, but they make the writing less fluent and can cause momentary difficulty. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, especially for describing instruction, learner progress, and evidence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including subordinate clauses beginning “As” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and complex constructions are often faulty. Examples include “concepts sounds” and “statistics shows,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “an experienced tutor … follows … and teach,” where the verbs do not agree. Articles and sentence construction also need attention: “Without a formal assistance” is grammatically incorrect, while “Thus, leading to a wastage…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. These recurring errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise checking agreement across each clause and ensure that every sentence has a complete main clause.
