Student answer (Band 6.0)
A significant amount of learners are considering self study to learn English without attending a formal course. Many people argue that students usually find it tough to manage their studies without the guidance of tutors. However, I contradict with this because nowadays plenty of online resources and AI tools has made effortless to learn.
Students can learn effortlessly using online platforms and Ai tools. This is to say that, Variety of learning platforms and resources are available in internet , by using these learners can foster their knowledge of English without the need of formal courses. For instance, Duolingo application not only help learners by teaching new vocabulary but also track their everyday progress which is helpful to learn new language easily.
Another benefit of self learning is that, students can learn by their own pace and focus on their weaknesses. This is because everyone has different learning abilities, and some students need more time to understand certain grammatical rules. When studying independently students can focus on their weaknesses and take necessary time to improve without the pressure of other students. For example, students can learn online videos and practice by taking required time until they understand properly. Therefore, self-study may be effective particularly for late learners.
In conclusion, however many people believe that students find it tough to study English without the proper guidance of tutors, I think self-study is the effective way to learn English because students can find various learning materials online and students can study at their own pace without feeling pressure from others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you disagree that learners necessarily struggle without a teacher, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—access to online resources and the ability to study at an individual pace. The Duolingo example supports the first point, while the discussion of taking more time with grammar supports the second. This addresses the task well, but the ideas are not equally developed: the online-learning paragraph explains the benefits more specifically, whereas the second relies on a general example of watching videos and practising. To strengthen the response further, explain how learners can identify and correct mistakes without a teacher, or acknowledge a limitation of independent study before explaining why its benefits still outweigh it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two focused body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from online resources to learning at one’s own pace is logical, and signposts such as “Another benefit” and “For example” help readers follow the argument. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward: “This is to say that” adds little, and the conclusion begins with “however” in a way that makes the relationship between the clauses less smooth. There is also repetition of “students” and “learn” across the final paragraph. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer referencing, and connect each example more explicitly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “guidance,” “learning abilities,” “grammatical rules,” and “progress.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more specific language help the response go beyond very basic wording. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “a significant amount of learners” and “I contradict with this” do not express the intended meaning naturally, while “learn by their own pace” is also awkward. “Effortlessly” overstates the ease of learning, and “late learners” is unclear in this context. Aim for precise, conventional academic collocations and check whether each word conveys your intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “which is helpful to learn new language easily” and a concession in the conclusion. The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “AI tools has made” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Duolingo application not only help” needs a correctly inflected verb. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in phrases such as “available in internet” and “students can learn online videos.” Commas are sometimes placed awkwardly, including after “that” in “This is to say that, Variety…”. Practise agreement, articles and clause punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a complete and natural grammatical pattern.
