Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemprory era, an increasing number of learners choose to study English independently, instead of attending a formal course. However, learning a language requires guidence from a specialized mentor. Thus, this self-learning often leads to failure. A significant portion of population believes that self-study makes the process of learning slow and difficult. I strongly agree with this perspective and believe that learning a language requires proper mentorship.

Every language has its own rules and structures. Non-native learners of English face hardship in understanding these structures. For instance, pakistani students struggle to comprehend SVO structure. In urdu language subject, object and verb structured is followed. However, In English object comes after verb. As a result, learners get confused and the process of learning becomes difficult. However, an professional teacher, is well awared of these facts, and teaches students accordingly. Self-thought students often end up wasting lots of time understanding these structure, leading to lack of motivation.

Additionally, recent research demonstrates that self-study is often left uncompleted. Learners often get busy with other priorities of life. Consequently, they start to procastinate learning English. On the other hand, statistics shows that students are more consistent and active in a formal course. As a result the process of learning is fast and effective.

On the other hand, while there are differents apps such as duolingo, that can be used to learn english. The process is slow and leads to procastination. While language material is avalible on verious platforms such as youtube, students are bombarded with knowledge. They are not familier of the outline and the structure of learning. All of these factors makes learning more difficult than it really is.

To sum up, while material is avalible online, having assistance from a tutor is of paramount importance. Without the mentorship of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that learners need a teacher, and the conclusion returns to this view. You address the main issue with relevant reasons, including difficulty understanding differences between Urdu and English sentence structure and the risk of losing consistency when studying alone. The example about Pakistani learners helps make the first point concrete. However, some claims are asserted rather than explained: the reference to “recent research” and “statistics” gives no source or detail, and the point about online materials being overwhelming could be developed further. The response therefore covers the task well, but its support and development are not consistently detailed enough for a more complete treatment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate supporting paragraphs, a counterpoint about apps and online resources, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from language difficulties to motivation and then to the limits of online materials. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Consequently,” and “To sum up” help guide the reader. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical or the relationship between ideas is unclear. The repeated use of “However” and “As a result” makes transitions predictable, while the paragraph beginning “On the other hand” introduces a concession but mainly repeats the argument against self-study. Clearer topic sentences and more precise links between claims would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “independently,” “formal course,” “mentorship,” “priorities,” and “paramount importance.” These choices communicate the central argument, and terms such as “SVO structure” add specificity. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “contemprory,” “guidence,” “procastinate,” and “familier.” Some combinations are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “self-thought students,” “an professional teacher,” and “the process is fast.” Repetition of “difficult,” “learning,” and “students” limits flexibility. More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more natural and precise while preserving the ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “However,” “As a result,” and “while,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “an professional teacher” has an article error, “statistics shows” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “All of these factors makes” should use a plural verb. In “In urdu language subject, object and verb structured is followed,” the sentence structure makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the capitalised “In” after a full stop and commas that interrupt phrases. Review these patterns and aim for more consistently accurate complex sentences.
