Student answer (Band 5.5)

A large number of students choose to study english by themselves instead of attending classes, while without teacher, students may find it difficult to manage their studies. I partly agree with this notion because self study is useful, but learing with a teacher is more effective because teachers provide guidance and correct mistakes.

To begin with, there are several benefits of self-study. First, self study provides students flexibility and 24 hour availablity. Students can study anytime and anywhere without any restriction, like some students may comfort in study at night time and some are in early morning time. So self study give them more flexibility in study. Secondly, self-study can provide chance students to learn at their own speed. They can repeat difficult lessons again and again. For instance, learners can use youtube videos, english-learing apps it improve their grammer and repeat anytime.

However, learning with a teacher has beneficial in different way. Primary, a teacher can recognise student's mistakes. The teacher identify grammer and pronunciation errors and clear their doubts. For example, an ilets student studying alone may not recognise grammatical mistakes in speaking or writing, whereas a teacher can correct them and suggest improvements. Secondly, a teacher can provide proper guidance and helps students fully concentration in study. Sometime student does not become focused in self study, but under the observation of teacher, students can fully concentrate in their study.

In conclusion, although self study provide flexibilty and anytime chance of study, teacher can helps in stay focued and correct student's mistakes. I believe that both are equally important beacuse self study is good habit, but without a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partly agree, valuing self-study while arguing that teacher support is more effective. You address both sides with relevant reasons, including flexibility, learning at an individual pace, error correction and guidance. The examples of using online videos and an IELTS learner receiving feedback help make the discussion concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that teacher observation helps students concentrate could be developed by explaining how regular lessons or accountability improve study habits. The conclusion also says both approaches are equally important, which is not fully reconciled with your earlier view that teacher-led learning is more effective. Clarifying this balance and extending a few ideas would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs discuss the contrasting approaches, and a conclusion summarises your position. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “In conclusion” makes the main stages easy to follow. Within paragraphs, the sequence of reasons is generally logical, and examples follow the points they support. Some linking is mechanical, however, with repeated “First,” “Secondly,” and “For example.” A few connections are also unclear: “So self study give them more flexibility in study” repeats the preceding idea, while the final contrast between both methods being equally important and teachers being necessary could be linked more precisely. Use referencing and varied transitions to show how each point develops.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “flexibility,” “guidance,” “pronunciation errors,” and “grammatical mistakes.” Some phrases also show an attempt to express specific concepts, such as learning “at their own speed.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors are noticeable, sometimes making the reader pause. Examples include “24 hour availablity,” “fully concentration,” and “anytime chance of study.” Spelling errors such as “learing,” “grammer,” and “flexibilty” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural phrases for education and study, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise collocations would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “self study give them” needs subject–verb agreement, and “a teacher can helps” uses an incorrect verb form after a modal. In “a teacher can provide proper guidance and helps students,” the verbs in the coordinated phrase should follow the same pattern. Articles are also missing in phrases such as “without teacher.” Review these patterns and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. Greater control would make your varied sentence attempts more effective.
