Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, a huge amount of students believe that learning English by their own is more easy while other argue that without any teacher it is difficult to manage studies. In my opinion i strongly disagree that independent study is a right option to study English.
Firstly, learning English independently on the basis of self study is not a easy task for everyone and faces many consequences for instance, grammar mistake, not knowing about tenses and self learning usually involves online learning which is not giving you the exact material and starting point while some of them are paid which is not affordable for everyone and a lot of things got missed.
Secondly, i strongly agree that to study English a proper guidance and assistance are required because for some of the students it is difficult for them to learn new things by their own and without teacher they do not perform well. Furthermore a student needs a proper environment for study and in the guidance of teacher students can fulfill their task and learn the rules. As a result, students learn gradually and in a symmetrical way they learn English step by step.
In conclusion, although self study makes you creative but with proper guidance and assistance of teacher it is easier to study English in a proper way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you strongly disagree that independent study is the right option, and you give relevant reasons, including difficulty with grammar, unreliable online materials, affordability, and the value of teacher guidance. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because these points are mostly listed rather than explained with specific examples or consequences. For instance, you mention that “a lot of things got missed” but do not clarify what learners miss or how a teacher helps. The conclusion repeats your view without adding support. The response also falls 31 words short of the required minimum, limiting the space available to develop your argument. Extend each main reason with a concrete example and explain how it supports your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several ideas are joined in long, crowded sentences. The first body paragraph moves from grammar problems to online resources, cost, and missed content without clearly showing how these points connect. Phrases such as “Furthermore” and “As a result” are used, but the relationships between ideas are not always fully established. Improve cohesion by giving each paragraph one central reason, then explaining it in a logical sequence. Use clearer sentence boundaries and refer back to ideas explicitly rather than adding several points in one sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “independently,” “proper guidance,” “assistance,” and “affordable.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations sound unnatural, which can make parts of the argument less clear. Examples include “learning English by their own,” “a huge amount of students,” and “a symmetrical way.” The repeated use of “proper” and “study” also reduces variety. Aim to learn common academic collocations and use them accurately: for example, describe learners as studying “on their own,” and refer to a “structured approach” rather than a “symmetrical way.” More precise vocabulary would help you explain your reasons without relying on general phrases such as “a lot of things.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently, particularly with articles, agreement, pronouns, and sentence construction. Examples include “a huge amount of students,” “a not easy task” (written as “not a easy task”), and “other argue”; the opening also shifts between “students” and “you.” The long sentence beginning “Firstly” contains several ideas joined without clear grammatical boundaries, making it difficult to follow. Capitalisation and punctuation need attention too, including the lowercase “i.” Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause, then check articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries.
