Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is widely acknowledged that students should learn english not only to help them in studies but also in communication. Many students prefer self-learning over dedicated writing and spoken courses whereas, some students believe that they need proper guidence and help of instructor in learning. In this essay, I will disscus why I agree with view of the self-learning and then draw conclusions.
English is not only recognized as an nternational language but also many contries have made it a mode of instruction nowadays. It is second language in many countries and almost the curriculum is also changed to english. This positive development encourged young minds and motivated them to learn english. The technological advancements has made it easy for learners. There are multiple platforms where one can find related material and practice it. For example, there are plenty of YouTube channels where people can find tutorial videos form basic to advance level. Additionally, there are free of cost platforms where students can give quizzes and asess their performance. Moreover, significant number of scholars are getting support from multiple artifical intelligence (Ai) search engines. For example, tools like chatgpt, claude, gemini can be trained by prompts to act like tutors and back pupils in learning a new language. Building on this, the parents are already financily burdenized by educational institues to pay regular academic charges. In such situations, joing some formal coaching will further elevate parents financial challanges. For example, academies charge thousands of ruppees for linguistic and spoken courses. Apart from this, home tutors demand extra money.
In conclusion, despite the fact that english learning is mandatory, but I completely disagree that one needs teacher for this in this advanced era. From my perspective, learning a new language is based on self motivation and dedication not on the instructor. And in this modern and fully technological equpped era, we just need motivation as resources and platforms are abunant.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You take a clear position, concluding that a teacher is not necessary because learners can use online resources and self-motivation. Your examples of YouTube lessons, quizzes, AI tools and the cost of academies are relevant to independent study. However, the response does not fully explore the concern in the prompt: that students may struggle to manage their studies without a teacher. You mention resources and motivation, but do not explain how learners can plan, stay consistent, identify mistakes or receive feedback independently. The opening also promises to discuss why you agree with self-learning, while the conclusion says you disagree that a teacher is needed; state this position consistently and develop the counterargument before explaining why you reject it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a developed body paragraph and a conclusion, and the ideas generally relate to your position. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help signal progression. However, most supporting points are crowded into one long body paragraph, so the discussion moves quickly from technology to AI and then course costs without clear grouping. Some transitions are mechanical, and “despite the fact that … but” combines two contrasting structures unnecessarily. Divide the body into focused paragraphs—for example, one on online learning resources and another on the limits of self-study and course costs—and use clearer references to connect each example to your main claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “technological advancements,” “curriculum,” “platforms,” “assess their performance” and “self motivation.” These choices allow you to discuss both learning resources and costs. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “guidence,” “disscus,” “nternational,” “contr ies,” “asess” and “abunant.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “financially burdenized” and “back pupils in learning”; these reduce precision even though the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “financially burdened” and “support pupils’ learning,” and prefer “advanced level” to “advance level.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex forms, including the contrast in “not only … but also” and the example introduced by “For example.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation make the writing less controlled. For example, “The technological advancements has made it easy” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “It is second language” needs an article. The opening sentence beginning “Many students prefer…” joins contrasting clauses incorrectly with “whereas,” and “despite the fact that … but” is an awkward double construction. Practise building and punctuating compound sentences, and check articles and agreement during revision. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
