Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many students choose to study english by itself by doing self-study instead of attending the formal course to learn English. Nowadays it is a trend and a facility provided on internet to learn english so people choose to sudy by itself, that is a god option for studying independently. However, I prefer to choose a fomal couse provided by the institution because of the proper communication, doubt soving sessions and many more advantages over self study. this essay discuss both sides of the situation.

To begin with, self study is a good option beacuse it does not require any particular time or the place so at whatever time you can enjoy your study, the other reason peoply study by own that is do not rely upon others, Nowadays facalities are provided by internet so the students get free of cost advices and study materials for free while, Intstitutions may take a charge for study materials. For example, Youtube as well as many online platform who provides the best english courses with no cost and students also get thepractice paper for practiing for the exams. This process gves freedom to students and help them to gain the consistent scores.

On the other hand, I persoally prefer that self study is managable till some extent because, it requires more attention, focus and dedication towards study, Somehow, people fail in that subect and English is the subject where you have speak constantly with other people. meanwhile in formal English course there will be no difficulty because of the experienced teacher, proper guidance, decide pathway to learn from basic to advanced and such more facilities provided in formal couse. for example, instituitons provides doubt solving session, one one practice and many more facalites wich helps student to learn proper English course.

By concluding, i partially disagree with self study over a formal couse as both sides are discussed above.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the issue and state a position: you value formal courses, while your conclusion says you “partially disagree” with self-study. Relevant reasons include flexibility and free online materials for independent learners, and teacher guidance and doubt-solving sessions in courses. The YouTube example also supports your point about access to resources. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says you prefer a formal course, but the conclusion’s wording makes your degree of agreement unclear. Some points, such as how learners may struggle to stay focused or why speaking practice matters, are mentioned but not explained in depth. Make your stance explicit and develop fewer reasons with clearer explanation and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two approaches, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help signal the shift between ideas, and the examples generally appear alongside the points they support. However, connections within sentences are sometimes awkward or mechanical, as in “the other reason peoply study by own that is do not rely upon others.” The introduction promises to “discuss both sides,” although the task asks for your degree of agreement, and the conclusion does not clearly resolve the position. Improve progression by giving each paragraph a clear main claim, then explaining and illustrating it, and use referencing and linking phrases more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “independently,” “dedication,” “experienced teacher,” “proper guidance,” and “advanced.” These choices help communicate the contrast between self-study and formal instruction. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “facilities,” “study,” and “course,” while several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, including “sudy,” “facalities,” “doubt soving,” and “decide pathway.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “study by itself” and “gain the consistent scores.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations for education, and choose more precise terms when describing resources, progress, and teacher support.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “For example, Youtube as well as many online platform…” and the sentence explaining that English requires learners to speak with others. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. Examples include “this essay discuss,” “students get free of cost advices,” and “institutions provides”; these need changes to verb agreement and countability. Several sentences run together or use commas where a full stop or conjunction is needed, particularly in the paragraph beginning “On the other hand.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
