Student answer (Band 6.0)

Everyone has different calibre to learn. Individuals posses different ability to learn. Some students are quick learners and others are slow at learning. Whether a person can learn English independently or requires the assistance of a teacher depends on several interconnected factors. Below are the key determinents that influence which path is best suited for learner:

1. Current proficiency level

2. Primary goals and objective

3. Learning style and self discipline

4. Availability of resources and Immersion.

I agree to the point that students often find it difficult to manage their studies which includes the challenge of curriculum and strategic prioritization, lack of objective feedback and error correction, cognitive overload and decision fatigue and accountability and psychological support.

Many students requires teachers to learn English, especially in non native nations. For example, in India, the largest population on earth which speaks in English requires students to learn basic English in school and in their higher studies. Due to availability of resources and structured planning, students learn English in better way.

There are several countries where the native language is English so requires the less amount of schooling for English. Students can very well converse in English and can learn the advanced English independently.

These people or learners refine their skills as they are native speakers. There are many learners in non native land where they are highly self efficient and autonomous learners. For example Shashi tharor, an Indian politician.

However, the ideal approach rarely requires choosing one over another. The most successful setup is usually guided autonomy which is the balance of both approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You take a clear position by stating, “I agree,” and give relevant reasons, including the need for feedback, structured planning and accountability. The examples of learners in India and of Shashi Tharoor also relate to the contrast between guided and independent study. However, several points are listed rather than explained: for instance, “cognitive overload and decision fatigue” is named but not illustrated, and the discussion of native English speakers does not fully show how it answers the question about students managing independent study. Your conclusion introduces “guided autonomy,” but the essay could explain more directly how much teacher support you believe learners need and why. Develop fewer reasons with specific explanation and examples to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable overall shape: an introduction, a statement of agreement, examples and a concluding recommendation. The final idea of “guided autonomy” gives the essay a relevant endpoint. However, the numbered list in the opening interrupts the argument, and the essay moves abruptly from general factors to India, then to native English-speaking countries and individual autonomous learners. Connections between these paragraphs are not always clear, and phrases such as “These people or learners” have an uncertain reference. Build a clearer progression by grouping related reasons into paragraphs and using linking sentences to show how each example supports your position. This would make the organisation more coherent and cohesion less list-like.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “objective feedback,” “strategic prioritization,” “self discipline,” “autonomous learners” and “guided autonomy.” These choices help express relevant ideas, and the meaning is generally understandable. There are, however, some inaccurate or awkward word choices and collocations, such as “different calibre to learn,” “determinents,” “self efficient” and “learn English in better way.” Spelling and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “posses,” “tharor” and “Immersion.” Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than formal-sounding phrases whose meaning is unclear; proofreading spelling and word forms would also improve control. The vocabulary is adequate, but these inaccuracies limit precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening sentence beginning “Whether a person can learn English independently…” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “Many students requires teachers” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “requires the less amount of schooling” is not formed correctly. The sentence “There are several countries where the native language is English so requires…” also lacks a clear subject in its second clause. Review agreement and article use, and check that each clause has an explicit subject and a complete verb structure. Greater accuracy in these areas would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
