Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, A large number of learner have their own choice to learn English independently on a self-study basis rather than joining a formal course. However, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it hard to learn and manage their studies. I believe that every learner require a well knowledged faculty to learn language. I will discuss this in upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, person who believes that they can learn English language by their own basis of a self-study, they require a lot of dedicated hard work to the study. A person can not easily find their own mistakes and sometimes they repeat because they have no guidance to solve problems. For example, a person who learning english by self-study he can make grammer mistake and he could not able to find out what is wrong in his sentences, if he had a guide he can able to fix the problem and learn properly. Just from purchasing book or online sources can not fix a good fluency it require lots of practices and a good teacher to taught in an apropriate way.

On the other hand, A student can learn quickly and get good fluency when they learn from a formal course. Because it gives more practice session and live learning works on specific weakness. The live learning classes weather online or offline impact more intensively. A language require more live conversation and interaction so it helps more to a student to provide a perfect learning environment. Also, the courses are well managed and step by step from basic level of language skills to advance level.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with that a student who want to learn english should join a formal course because it taught in a well organised way from basic to advance with impactful learning sessions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you strongly support formal courses, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons. You explain that independent learners may struggle to identify errors, while courses offer practice, interaction and a structured progression. The example about a learner being unable to correct grammatical mistakes helps illustrate the first point. This fully addresses the central question, and the clear stance and relevant support show some qualities of a stronger response. However, several claims remain general—for instance, that courses provide “perfect” learning conditions—and the benefits of independent study are not explored beyond the effort it requires. Develop the comparison with a more specific example or explanation, and qualify broad claims to make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present contrasting points, and a conclusion restates your position. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the shift between the arguments easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The first body paragraph begins with a long, awkward sentence that repeats the idea of self-study, and “Because it gives more practice session” is left as a sentence fragment. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing the reasons together. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and vary how you connect ideas so the progression feels less formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to language learning, including “self-study,” “guidance,” “fluency,” “interaction” and “basic level.” This is enough to communicate your main points, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “well knowledged faculty,” “fix a good fluency,” “live learning works on specific weakness” and “impact more intensively.” Some words are also repeated, particularly “learn,” “student” and “course.” Build a more precise range of phrases for teaching and progress, and check whether words naturally combine in English. More accurate collocations would make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “if he had a guide” and clauses explaining why learners need support. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and basic grammar occur often enough to affect clarity. For example, “every learner require” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “a person who learning” is missing an auxiliary verb. “Because it gives more practice session” is a fragment, and “it taught in a well organised way” has an incorrect verb form. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, articles, plurals and verb forms. Aim to make your longer sentences accurate before adding further complexity.
