Student answer (Band 6.0)
A large number of students choose to study english independently on a self-study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the help of a teacher, students often find it hard to manage their studies. English is a global language therefore people think that the course is not needed, however we do need a proper assistance and guidance to expertise in this language.
English is spoken all over the world. Children are taught in english as soon as they get into the school and almost everyone understands basic english words. There are also a lot of content on internet that are in english. For instance, youtube , from where people can learn free english tutorials and also everyone watches english movies, so people start thinking they know english very well and when a student have a choice, they prefer to study english by themselves.
At first, they find it easy but as soon as they move towards complex part, for example, grammar, vocabulary, complex sentence structure, they often get confused . This is because they start learning without proper guidance and without any proper structure. Student end up having so many doubts and confusions as they are not able to find meaning behind certain topics furthermore, as they do not have any teacher, the problems and questions start to pile up, which end up overwhelming them and they end up quiting.
From my point of view, I believe even if we know basics and speak english fluently, we do need a proper assistance of a teacher to get better in course. An instructor will teach topics in organised way and will also help the student in clearing their doubts and confusions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that learners need a teacher’s assistance, and you explain both why students choose independent study and how they can struggle as the material becomes more complex. The examples of online tutorials and English-language films are relevant, while the discussion of grammar, vocabulary and unanswered questions supports your main view. However, the reasons are not developed equally: the point about online resources mainly explains the choice to study alone, rather than examining their limitations, and the conclusion repeats your position without drawing the argument together. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically how a teacher’s feedback or structured course helps learners progress beyond what online materials can provide, and develop one example in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an explanation of why students study independently, a paragraph on the difficulties they encounter, and a concluding opinion. This sequence is generally logical and helps the reader follow your argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The repeated use of “however,” “as,” and “end up” makes some passages feel repetitive, and the long sentence beginning “Student end up having so many doubts” joins several ideas without clear punctuation. Some references, such as “they” in the second paragraph, could be more precise. Use clearer sentence boundaries, vary linking expressions, and make each paragraph’s main point explicit before adding supporting details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including relevant terms such as “guidance,” “complex sentence structure,” “instructor,” and “overwhelming.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the examples are generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “proper assistance” is repeated, “expertise in this language” does not fit the intended meaning, and “clearing their doubts and confusions” is not idiomatic. There are also spelling and form issues, including “quiting” and inconsistent capitalisation of “English.” Aim for more natural academic combinations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this would make your argument sound more controlled and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “as soon as,” “because,” and “which,” so there is some variety in your sentence forms. Most of the meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors nevertheless recur. For example, “There are also a lot of content” has a number-agreement problem, and “when a student have a choice” needs subject–verb agreement. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “we do need a proper assistance” and “At first, they find it easy but as soon as they move towards complex part.” Punctuation is sometimes missing around sentence boundaries, particularly in the long sentence about students’ doubts. Review agreement, articles, and punctuation, and break long sentences into clearer units.
