Student answer (Band 5.0)
While living in modern globalised era, students choose to self study english independently rather then to attend any formal course. Nonetheless, without the guidance of any mentor, few often feel cumbersome in managig their studies. I partially disagree with this standpoint because internet revolutionise the learning at greater extent.
Advocates against self studying english contend that who study at their own pace without any guidance find hardships in studies as they still have traditional beliefs regarding learning thereby face difficulties. For instance, learners who study independently often do not understand complex sentence structures and grammer rules hence results in bad grades. Moreover, they

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the topic and gives a position—“I partially disagree”—then begins to explain why independent learners may struggle, using grammar and grades as an example. However, it does not develop the position or address the question in a complete way: the promised counterargument about the internet is not explained, and the final point ends at “Moreover, they”. The response therefore addresses the task only minimally, with ideas that remain limited and unsupported. It is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving no room to explain both sides, clarify the extent of disagreement, or provide relevant examples. Develop a clear argument in full paragraphs and support each main point with explanation or a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening states a position, followed by a paragraph introducing the view that self-study can be difficult. Linking expressions such as “Nonetheless,” “For instance,” and “Moreover” show awareness of cohesion. However, the progression is incomplete: “Moreover, they” leaves the paragraph unfinished, and the internet-based reason mentioned in the introduction is never connected to supporting details. The relationship between the opening claim and the paragraph’s focus is also not fully clarified. To improve, use a complete paragraph structure with one main idea per paragraph, explain how each example supports the position, and finish with a conclusion that restates the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response shows some range through topic-related expressions such as “formal course,” “guidance,” “complex sentence structures,” and “traditional beliefs.” These choices make the subject generally clear, and “partially disagree” communicates a qualified position. However, several inaccurate or unnatural choices reduce precision, including “feel cumbersome” for people experiencing difficulty, “at greater extent,” and “Advocates against self studying.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “managig,” “grammer,” and “revolutionise” also affect control. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe learners as finding it “difficult to manage their studies” and say that the internet has “transformed language learning.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex sentence forms, including “because internet revolutionise the learning at greater extent” and a clause beginning “learners who study independently.” This shows an effort to connect ideas rather than rely only on short simple sentences. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction and agreement sometimes make the meaning less clear. For example, “students choose to self study … rather then to attend” has an awkward parallel structure, while “learners … do not understand … hence results in bad grades” lacks a clear grammatical subject for “results.” Articles and verb forms also need attention in “in modern globalised era” and “internet revolutionise.” Practise complete, accurately linked sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and parallel phrasing.
