A huge number of students choose to study English independently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, numerous students prefer to learn English language on their own instead of joining any institute and attending classes. However, without the guidence of a mentor, it is often tough for learners to manage studies. I completely agree with this statement, because teachers provide structure, feedback and motivation that self-study cannot easily replace.

To begin with, teachers help students to follow a clear plan, self-leaners often waste time because they do not know which skills to practice first or how to measure their progress. In schools every teachers provide their students a time-table, set their goals and explain difficult grammar in a simple way. For instance, a student preparing for IELTS may spend weeks on vocabulary while ignoring writing, which is a common mistake without proper guidence.

In addition, teachers give feedback and keep students motivated. Whenever leaners need any help they guide them while speaking, and writing they notice their mistakes and at the end they give them feedback and correct their mistakes and encourage students to keep improving.

However, I accept that self-study can work for some people. Online study is convenient and affordable for some, online videos, apps and free websites make it possible for disciplined students to learn successfully.Even so mostly students find it hard because there is no one who checking their work and correct their mistakes. Self-study cannot give students experience of learning with others in any practicular institute.

In conclusion, while self-study offers flexibility and low costs, but most students need a teacher's feedback and for checking their progress and fix their errors and guide them for improving for this reason I agree with this statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that learners often need a teacher, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant reasons—teachers provide structure, feedback and motivation—and the IELTS-preparation example helps illustrate how a learner might neglect writing. You also acknowledge that self-study can suit disciplined learners, so the response considers both sides. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that self-study lacks the experience of learning with others is not developed, and the paragraph about feedback repeats the idea of correcting mistakes without showing its effect on progress. Explain these points with a specific consequence or example to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your view, a concession, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “In addition,” and “However” help signal the stages of the argument. Some connections within paragraphs are less controlled, though. The sentence beginning “Whenever learners need any help” strings together several actions, making the relationship between guidance, correction and motivation difficult to follow. The concession paragraph also moves quickly from online resources to the lack of feedback and then to learning with others. Use clearer sentence boundaries and develop one connected point at a time. The conclusion is relevant, but its repeated references to checking, fixing and guiding make the final summary less concise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “structure,” “feedback,” “motivation,” “disciplined,” and “flexibility.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-specific terms, such as “IELTS” and “grammar,” are appropriate. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrases reduce accuracy: “guidence” is misspelled, “self-leaners” is not the intended form, and “any practicular institute” is unclear. Phrases such as “manage studies” and “fix their errors” are understandable but less natural in this context. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily advanced words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex forms, including a reason clause with “because,” a conditional example, and a concession beginning “while.” The main message remains understandable, but some sentence structures and agreement patterns are inaccurate. For example, “self-learners often waste time because they do not know…” is joined to the preceding clause with a comma, creating a run-on sentence. In “every teachers provide,” the subject and verb do not agree, while “there is no one who checking their work” is missing a verb form. The final sentence also combines “while” with “but” and has an unclear sequence of clauses. Practise separating independent clauses and checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, especially in longer sentences.
