Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's rapidly changing world, self learning of English has become a matter of cosiderable debate. while some people believe that learning english on their own is better than attending classes, other argued that student will face problem with their studies without the guideline from thier tutors. I strongly agree with the view, as students without observation will easily lose their focus and student can easily slove problem if teacher is present.

On the one side, self learning provide a benifit to the student. It provide open space for student to learn or practice english in thier leisure time. For example, students can just open the laptop or computer and can find online course on internet, and can start learning from there. As a result, this can save time and also easily accessible for students to learn on thier own.

On the other side, without the assistance of a teacher, students get discracte and can start doing other activities rather than learning. As, a teacher plays an important role in students life, they motivate students and encourage them to concentrate on studies. Furthermore, teachers can help students to solve issuse regarding their studies, which can help them to move forward.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is stated clearly: “I strongly agree,” and you give relevant reasons, including loss of focus without a teacher and the support teachers provide. You also acknowledge a benefit of independent study, such as flexibility and access to online courses. However, the response addresses the issue only partially: the reasons are brief, and the examples are general rather than developed. The claim that students can “easily slove problem” with a teacher, for instance, needs explanation or a specific example. The response is also 50 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your argument. Extend each main point with a concrete example and explain how it supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about independent study, and a paragraph about teacher support. Phrases such as “On the one side” and “On the other side” signal the contrast and help the reader follow the main ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several points are listed without being connected through explanation. The first body paragraph, for example, moves from flexible study time to online courses and saving time, but does not clearly relate these benefits to your overall agreement. Some linking is mechanical, and “As” at the start of the final paragraph’s second sentence is awkwardly punctuated. Develop a clearer sequence of claim, explanation, and example in each paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “self learning,” “assistance,” “concentrate,” and “encourage,” and the main ideas remain understandable. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, such as “cosiderable,” “thier,” “discracte,” and “issuse.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “open space” for the flexibility of independent study and “guideline from their tutors” for teacher guidance. These choices sometimes make the reader pause, even though the intended meaning can usually be inferred. Build a more accurate set of topic-specific phrases and check spelling carefully; using precise collocations will make your argument clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast in the introduction and a relative clause in “which can help them to move forward.” Most sentences communicate a basic idea, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “self learning … has become” is followed by “while” without appropriate capitalisation, and “self learning provide” should have a singular verb. In “It provide open space for student,” the verb and noun forms also need correction. The sentence beginning “As, a teacher…” has faulty punctuation, while “students life” needs a possessive form. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at longer sentence structures.
