A huge number of students choose to study English independently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, students think that, they can manage their studies independently without supervision of any teacher but they are wrong, I am totally disagree with this mind set.

Firstly, some students belongs to rural areas, their english is much weak and they try to study english without teacher but at the they become fail in the final exam. This way of studing is waste of money and time. So, my point of view tutor is mandatry to get success in real exam, he can play a vital rule to achieve a goal.

secondaly, some students have good communication skills in English thats why, they can try to study indepandentaly. Which is totally wrong practice, through this method they can waste their time and energy. So, these types of studends also need better direction in the form of teacher.Thats why teacher is fantastic thing to learn new things. I always recommend that, without teacher study is possible but very difficult to learn new tops wich we never read before.

On the oher hand, some students are to much clavear they can learn through tecnology like use AI tools

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a clear position—“I am totally disagree”—and give reasons related to students’ need for guidance, including weaker English skills and the risk of wasting time. These points are relevant, but they are asserted rather than explained with specific examples or developed consequences. The final point about using AI is unfinished, so it does not provide a balanced or complete response to the question. The essay also falls short of the required 250 words, which limits how fully you can explain your view and support it. To strengthen the response, develop two main reasons with concrete examples and finish by directly explaining how much difficulty independent learners face without a teacher.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, and sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “secondaly,” and “On the oher hand” show an attempt to organise ideas. However, progression is limited: the second paragraph repeats the claim that independent study is wrong and wastes time, rather than adding a clearly distinct, developed point. Some connections are unclear, especially “Which is totally wrong practice,” whose reference is not a complete sentence, and the final paragraph stops before its idea is explained. Plan a clear introduction, two focused body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Use linking phrases to show the relationship between ideas, not simply to announce each one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “supervision,” “communication skills,” “direction,” and “AI tools,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear or natural, such as “studing,” “mandatry,” “rule” for “role,” and “tops” for “topics.” Phrases such as “teacher is fantastic thing” are also imprecise. Build a bank of accurate expressions for discussing independent learning, such as “study plan,” “feedback,” and “learning resources,” and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain your reasons rather than repeat general claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, for example, “some students have good communication skills in English thats why, they can try to study indepandentaly.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries occur frequently enough to make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “I am totally disagree,” “some students belongs,” and “Which is totally wrong practice.” Punctuation also creates run-on sentences, particularly in the opening. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and verb patterns. Using a few accurate complex structures is more effective than joining several ideas with commas.
