Student answer (Band 6.0)

Large number of students prefer Self study over attending formal classes to study the subject of English. Some individuals think without teacher's assistance students find it difficult to study. I do not agree with this point.

English is an evolving language, every other day a new word adds in vocablary according to the need of time. The teachers who teach student in class full of students in traditional way they only teach the things that are part of sylabus not the new rules that are added, with that the teacher is unabale to give attention to each student seperatly and also the teachers don't wait for everyone as he/she has to complete the course according to time line these are the issues which my cousine shared with me while he was studying english while attending classes.

While I pesonally do self study for the subject of English. There are multiple advantages that i have got know, some of them are it saves time and energy as I don't have to travel to attend any class, with that I study on my own speed and work more on the things I am week in and I also don't have to wait for others, for me it's also cost effective and convinent also as there are many resources available for free on internet for studying and for also doing test preps.

So in my opinion self study is more effective way to study especialy the subject of english. Its cheap, convinent, and give option to work hard to own our own speed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that independent learners necessarily struggle without a teacher, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including flexibility, saving travel time and money, and being able to focus on weaker areas. The example about your cousin also supports your criticism of large classes. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the claims that English changes daily and that teachers do not teach new rules are broad and need a specific example or qualification. The discussion also focuses mainly on disadvantages of formal classes rather than explaining how independent learners can manage their studies successfully. Develop that side with practical examples, such as using a study plan or online feedback, to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion summarises your position. Ideas generally progress from problems with classroom learning to the benefits you have experienced through self-study. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The second paragraph begins with a long chain of points joined by “and,” making the relationship between the teacher’s time constraints and your cousin’s experience difficult to follow. In the next paragraph, “There are multiple advantages… some of them are” introduces a list, but the points would be clearer if grouped and explained separately. Use more precise linking and referencing, and make each paragraph develop one main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “formal classes,” “traditional way,” “cost effective,” and “resources available for free on internet.” These choices communicate your main ideas, and phrases such as “work more on the things I am weak in” show an attempt to express a specific learning benefit. However, the range is limited and some wording is imprecise or repetitive, particularly repeated references to “study” and “teacher.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “vocablary,” “sylabus,” “unabale,” “seperatly,” and “convinent,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise academic collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe learners as studying “at their own pace” and identify “areas for improvement.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. The sentence beginning “The teachers who teach student in class full of students…” shows an effort to explain a connected cause-and-effect idea, while the final paragraph gives a clear summary. However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, especially where several clauses are joined together. There are errors in articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries: “Large number of students” needs an article, “a new word adds” does not fit the intended meaning, and “English is an evolving language, every other day…” joins two independent clauses with a comma. Improve accuracy by breaking long sentences into shorter units and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
