Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, A huge numbers of students choose to study english independently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course. I argue that without the assistance of a teacher , students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

To begans that, Many students in present time prefer to learn English online or independently from often websites. Due to the fact that the positive aspect of this is that they can learn any time when they are free. For instance some students does part time jobs and learn their English skills independently after job in free time that's why they prefer to learn independently.

Furthermore,Their is a significant negative aspects of independent learning. The major aspects of independent learning is that without the assistance of a teacher students can't find their mistakes and difficult to manage their studies .For instance if the students learning their skills without the teachers they can't take part in speaking test with a professional teachers and can't imrove their vocabulary cohesion and listening skills.

In Conclusion,I argue and disagree with independent learning due to the fact that they can't learn their mistakes. The positive aspect is that students can learn with their skills and the method which they can understand easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You take a position that students struggle without a teacher, and you give relevant reasons: learners may not identify their mistakes and may lack opportunities to practise speaking. However, the response only partially develops the task. The benefits of independent study are mentioned, but the essay does not clearly weigh them against the difficulties, and the examples are brief rather than explained. Your conclusion also says “I argue and disagree with independent learning,” which does not clearly match the position in your introduction. The response is 173 words, 77 words below the 250-word minimum; 34 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop each main point with explanation and a specific example, and state your degree of agreement consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance” and “In Conclusion” help signal the stages of your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: “Due to the fact that the positive aspect of this is that…” combines ideas awkwardly, while the second body paragraph moves from identifying mistakes to speaking practice and several skills without clear connections. Some references, such as “they” and “their,” are not always precise. Use one clear topic sentence per paragraph, then explain and illustrate that point in sequence. More accurate, less repetitive linking would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic set of relevant terms, including “independently,” “formal course,” “assistance of a teacher” and “vocabulary,” so the reader can understand the general topic. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “independent learning” and “positive aspect.” Some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “learn their mistakes” and “take part in speaking test,” and spelling errors include “begans” and “imrove.” These issues sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Build a wider set of precise expressions for discussing study methods, feedback and language skills, and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including a reason clause beginning “Due to the fact that” and a conditional example with “if.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled successfully. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “some students does,” an incomplete or awkward construction in “Due to the fact that the positive aspect of this is that,” and missing or misplaced punctuation around introductory phrases. There are also problems with articles and plural forms, as in “a professional teachers.” These errors recur and can make the reader pause. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause, then proofread agreement, articles and punctuation.
