A huge number of students choose to study English independently on a self- study basis rather than attend a formal course. However, without the assistance of a teacher, students often find it difficult to manage their studies.

To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Most of the students prefor to study english by themselves rather than taking an cource. This is because most of them think they are capabale enough to learn english by self-studying for some extent i do agree with the statement.

Based on the resources and also with the help of the internet students ca easily learn english without any teacher. For example :There are lot of online videos and also websites which are really helps them to learn from that like watching recorded videos also using AI helps in guiding them through out the learning.

But for the students it will be hard to learn something new by themselfs without any assistance of teacher .Learning a language is not an easy thing and also one could learn language easily when they are under some one assistance so that they get to know how to learn and rectifi the mistakes For example:Ai will help them in learning but it could not heelp them in identifing their mistakes and make them understand easily is not that esay for AI .Teacher with experience could help you in improving and identifing your weekness which will help you in learng english even more faster.

So it is all based on the students learning ability and their capability of learning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a relevant, partly balanced response: you recognise that online resources and AI can support independent learning, while teachers can identify mistakes and explain how to improve. This addresses the topic, but your position is not fully clear. The opening says “for some extent i do agree,” yet the conclusion says learning depends on each student’s ability, rather than restating how far you agree with the claim that self-study is difficult to manage. The supporting ideas are also brief; for instance, you mention recorded videos and AI but do not explain how students organise or monitor their learning. The response is 37 words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to develop reasons and examples. State your position clearly and extend each main point with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

Your response has a basic overall structure: it introduces the issue, presents benefits of self-study, contrasts these with the value of a teacher, and ends with a conclusion. The examples introduced by “For example” help signal support for your points. However, the progression between ideas is not always clear, and the conclusion does not directly resolve the position stated in the introduction. Some sentences contain several ideas joined together, making the relationship between them difficult to follow. For example, the sentence about AI, mistakes, and teachers combines multiple claims without clear separation. Use distinct paragraphs for the introduction, each main argument, and the conclusion, and connect ideas with precise transitions such as “However” or “As a result” where the relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “self-studying,” “online videos,” “assistance,” “identifying their mistakes,” and “weaknesses.” These choices make your main subject understandable. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “cource,” “capabale,” “rectifi,” and “weekness.” Some expressions are also unnatural, including “learn from that” and “under some one assistance.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and avoid repeating “learn” and “help” when a more precise verb is available. Proofreading spelling and choosing phrases such as “receive guidance” or “correct errors” would make your ideas easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to express reasons and contrast ideas, including with “This is because” and “But,” and you use some longer sentence forms. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and punctuation occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to follow. For example, “There are lot of online videos and also websites which are really helps them” has problems with the article and verb agreement. The opening also runs several ideas together without clear sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using subordinate clauses. Check articles and subject–verb agreement, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
