Student answer (Band 6.0)

A large number of students choose to learn English on their own instead of learning it from an institution. Without the mentorship student find it hard to manage their academics. I believe that with support of a teacher it is way easier to master English, as learning a new language demands years of hardwork and consistency.

Mastering English is not a quick achievable goal. English is a broad language with many rules to follow. A right mentor can guide you to a path where learning a language would be much easier and effective. For example, individuals who tend to learn English from movies often find hard to write formal writing with correct grammar as it needs you to follow the writing pattern with correct form of tenses and grammar. Furthermore, teachers do not only provide the resources but they facilitate students to improve on the weaker areas and gave them instant feedbacks.

Learning English from online free platforms or through videos are encouraged by many because hiring an English teacher or enrolling into a language course are expensive. For example, many online free websites provides you sufficent English resources to learn. Numerous individuals hesitate to learn language from an institute because of shyness or adapting an alien language is not easy. It takes pleanty of time and discipline to adapt new language, whereas people usually can not put enough efforts alone which is mostly observed in self learning.

Overall, to achieve perfect English a tutor or a mentor is must as they highlights the weaker areas and are more effective rather than learning from online free sites

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you believe teacher support makes learning English easier, and you maintain this view in the conclusion. You address both independent study and the benefits of instruction, using relevant examples such as learning from films, receiving feedback, and using free websites. This meets the task well, and the explanation of how teachers identify weaker areas gives your argument some development. However, the discussion of cost and shyness is introduced but not fully connected to whether independent learners can manage their studies. The claim that a tutor is necessary for “perfect English” is also stronger than the evidence supports. To develop the response further, explain these counterpoints and qualify broad claims with more specific reasoning or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The first body paragraph focuses on guidance and feedback, while the second considers why learners choose independent study, so the reader can follow the main progression. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “Overall” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The second paragraph moves from the cost of courses to shyness and then to discipline without explaining how these points relate to managing study. Some references, such as “they” in the conclusion, could also be clearer. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point and add explicit links between supporting ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “mentorship,” “formal,” “resources,” “instant feedback,” and “weaker areas.” These choices allow you to discuss both the practical and personal challenges of learning English. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “formal writing” and “language course.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “a quick achievable goal,” “feedbacks,” and “adapt an alien language.” Spelling errors such as “sufficent” and “pleanty” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations and check word forms: for instance, use “receive feedback” rather than “feedbacks,” and “adjust to a new language” rather than “adapt an alien language.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “individuals who tend to learn English from movies” and a contrast introduced by “whereas.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing articles or possessives in “Without the mentorship student,” subject–verb disagreement in “websites provides,” and “Learning English from online free platforms or through videos are encouraged.” There are also problems with verb forms and sentence construction, as in “teachers … gave them instant feedbacks” and “as it needs you to follow.” Review agreement, articles, and consistent tense, and revise sentences so the subject and main verb are easy to identify. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
