Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart illustrates that the perceived danger and recent likelihood of being a victim.

Overall, the most dominant part was the perceived of 2009/10, 2010/11. Actuall of being a victim had low percentages almost in all of crime type.

The perceived in 2009/10 had the highest propotions in burglary, car and vident crime with about 15, 20, 15 respectively. while in 2010/11 came secondly with almost 12, 16, 14 as the most two danger of crime.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s main contrast: perceived risk is much higher than actual victimisation, and perceived figures are generally higher in 2009/10 than in 2010/11. You also include approximate figures for the three crime types. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the overview is unclear (“the most dominant part was the perceived of 2009/10, 2010/11”), and the final comparison is cut off at “was,” leaving violent-crime actual figures unreported. Some figures are imprecise, such as burglary perception in 2010/11, but the larger issue is incomplete coverage and limited explanation of the main patterns. The response is 117 words, below the required 150. Add a complete overview and finish the comparisons, including the broadly stable actual rates.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then comparisons of perceived and actual figures. Connectors such as “Overall,” “whilst,” and “When it comes to” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is not consistently clear. The overview’s wording makes the comparison between the two years difficult to follow, and the final sentence stops mid-thought, so the account has no complete ending. The repeated pattern of listing figures also limits the development of the report. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and the key comparisons, and make each comparison complete. Linking phrases should clarify relationships between data rather than introduce fragments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “percentages,” “approximately,” and “similar,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear: “the perceived of 2009/10,” “most two danger,” and “less dangerous” do not describe the data naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “Actuall,” “propotions,” and “vident.” In an IELTS report, prefer neutral terms for reporting figures rather than describing crime categories as dangerous. Check spelling carefully and use accurate collocations, for example, “the perceived likelihood was highest” and “actual rates were lower.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “while in 2010/11…” and “When it comes to…,” but most sentences follow a simple pattern and the longer attempts are often incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “Overall, the most dominant part was the perceived of 2009/10, 2010/11” lacks a clear grammatical relationship, while “in car crime were roughly similar” has an unclear subject and agreement. The final clause, “actual 2010/11 was,” is unfinished. Sentence boundaries and capitalization also need attention, as “respectively. while” begins a new sentence incorrectly. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and proofread punctuation and agreement.
