Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart delineates the data of perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime.

From overall shape of the graph, it is quite clear that perceived all kind of the crimes were highest among. Whereas, actual crimes were lowest in the year 2009/11 and 2010/2011.

To begin with, Burglary, car crime, and violent crime were highest where that were perceived in the year 2009/10 and the year 2010/11, which were nearly 15 and 13, above 20 and 16 and 15 and 14 percent respectively. That were nearly similar ration in all three kind of crimes.

However, least dominant crime reported, which were actual in the years 2009/10 and 2010/11 of burglary were around 2% and smallest fluctuation had in following year up to 3%. Actual Car crime had nearly 5% of danger, that was highest among all actual crime. Moreover, only 4 percent had noted in violent type of crime in the years 2009/10 and 2010/11.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response provides a basic overview of the data, but it fails to clearly distinguish between the two categories (perceived vs. actual) in a way that makes the comparisons easy to follow. While you have identified the main features, the description of the data is often confusing, particularly when discussing the percentages. For instance, the phrase 'above 20 and 16 and 15 and 14 percent respectively' is difficult to interpret against the provided graph. To improve, you should focus on grouping the data more logically—perhaps by crime type—and ensuring that the figures cited are clearly linked to the specific categories they represent. The summary lacks a clear, analytical comparison between the perceived and actual levels.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Transitions like 'To begin with' and 'However' are used, but they do not always connect the ideas effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'That were nearly similar ration in all three kind of crimes,' where the pronoun 'that' does not clearly refer back to a specific antecedent. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'highest' and 'lowest' throughout the response. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'perceived all kind of the crimes' and 'smallest fluctuation had in following year.' These errors occasionally make the meaning slightly obscure. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary to describe trends and data points, such as 'proportion,' 'estimated,' 'significantly higher,' or 'marginal increase.' Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will also help you convey the information more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'perceived all kind of the crimes were'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'Actual Car crime had nearly 5% of danger'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree, and using articles correctly. Reducing the number of errors in simple sentences will provide a stronger foundation before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
