Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 77 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The summary is incomplete, as it fails to report the main features or make meaningful comparisons between the perceived and actual likelihood of crime. The response stops abruptly after mentioning only a few data points, leaving the majority of the graph unanalysed. To improve, you must provide a comprehensive overview of all categories and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full development of the data provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', these are used incorrectly as the content does not follow a balanced comparison. The paragraphing is fragmented, and the text ends mid-sentence, which disrupts the flow of information. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked logically. You should also avoid meta-commentary like 'We will analysis the data below given', as this is not appropriate for an academic report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'the below graph illustrate' and 'highest among all the data' are basic. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'The Burglary perceived 2009 and 2010', which is grammatically and lexically unclear. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'fluctuate', or 'exceed'. Focus on using precise terminology related to data interpretation rather than repeating simple descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('graph illustrate', 'car crime are') and incorrect sentence structures ('The Burglary perceived 2009 and 2010 about 16%'). The attempt to use complex structures is absent, and the existing sentences are simple and often incomplete. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practice using accurate tense forms for reporting data. Proofreading for basic punctuation and word order will also help improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
