Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you identify the categories and some data points, the comparison between perceived and actual likelihood is not fully developed. For instance, the significant gap between perception and reality is a key feature that should have been highlighted more explicitly. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the confusing sentence regarding 'actual number of car crime victims of violent crime,' which obscures the information. To improve, ensure that your summary highlights the most striking trends and contrasts rather than just listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Notably' and 'Additionally,' the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The final sentence feels disconnected from the rest of the paragraph, and the progression of ideas lacks a smooth transition between the perceived data and the actual data. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates,' 'prospects,' and 'proportion.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'factual prospects which are effected by crime' (should be 'affected') and 'perceived incidents of car crimes.' The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more accurate collocations related to data description and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'perceived incidents... was considerably high' (subject-verb agreement) and 'violent crime, which amounted to approximately 3 percent' (sentence fragment). There are also issues with preposition usage and word forms. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
