Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have attempted to identify the main features, the analysis is underdeveloped and lacks a clear, accurate summary of the data. For instance, your description of the figures is vague and contains inaccuracies, such as stating the actual crime rates were 'almost similar' without providing precise data points. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the task, provide specific data to support your claims, and meet the length requirement to allow for a full development of the information presented in the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'First and the foremost is that' and 'In addition to it', which do not effectively link the complex data points. Paragraphing is present, but the logical flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between perceived and actual crime rates. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'percentage', 'crime', and 'similar'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'vicient' and 'viclent' instead of 'violent'. The phrasing 'near about' and 'stand on' is imprecise and not suitable for an academic report. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'significantly higher', and ensure accurate spelling of key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the percentage of being a victim' (should be 'the percentage of people who were victims') and 'it stand on less than 15%' (should be 'it stood at less than 15%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around percentages and commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for reporting data, and refining sentence structure to reduce errors.
