Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to adequately address the task. While it identifies the topic, it lacks a clear overview of the main trends or significant differences. The description of the data is fragmented and confusing, failing to accurately report the specific figures or make meaningful comparisons between the perceived and actual likelihoods. The response relies on vague descriptions like 'very high' or 'some low' rather than referencing the provided data points. To improve, you must group the data logically, highlight the most striking differences (e.g., the gap between perceived and actual car crime), and provide specific data points to support your observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks logical progression. The paragraphs are disjointed, and the sentences within them do not flow naturally. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the text feel like a series of isolated, repetitive statements. For example, the transition between discussing crime types and the years is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'whereas' to connect your ideas. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as one paragraph for the highest crime types and another for the comparison between perceived and actual data.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'crime ratio' are used incorrectly throughout the text, as the graph displays percentages of victims, not ratios. There is a lack of academic vocabulary required for a Task 1 report. Many phrases, such as 'perfect victim of the crime' and 'four type of graph data', are unnatural and impede clarity. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'significant', 'notably', and 'discrepancy'. Avoid repeating the same basic words in every sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often make the meaning difficult to follow. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure (e.g., 'Here is shows to the percentages'). The use of prepositions is also frequently incorrect. The sentence structures are simple and repetitive, with no evidence of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Practice using articles correctly and review the rules for pluralization and verb tense consistency.
