Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type.
Overall, the crime type of car was perceived to be the highest whereas burglary and violent crime was about the same over the period.
in 2009, car crime was predicted to be the highest crime rate at above 20% but the actual was different from perceived and the figure was under 5%. Whereas in 2010 it was thought that the car crime will be approximately 17% but actual remained unchanged and was about the same as 2009.
By contrast, burglary and violent crime foretasted to start at the same proportion which was just above 15% in 2009. However, burglary was little lower in actual than violent crime in 2009. Additionally, in 2010 both thought to began at same position with around 13% and actual was the same, with the figure accounted for about 4%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the key trends for car crime, burglary, and violent crime. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you successfully highlight the disparity between perceived and actual crime rates, the description of the data is occasionally imprecise (e.g., stating burglary and violent crime were 'about the same' without clearly distinguishing the specific values). To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately reported and that comparisons are more clearly articulated, particularly when describing the differences between the two years provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'By contrast', and 'Additionally'. However, the flow is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'both thought to began at same position', which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would help the progression of ideas feel more natural and less repetitive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'highest', 'same', and 'under'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'foretasted' (likely meant 'forecasted') and 'thought to began' (should be 'thought to begin'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'discrepancy', 'overestimated', 'marginal', or 'fluctuated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the crime type of car was perceived to be the highest' (should be 'car crime'), 'actual was different from perceived' (missing noun), and 'both thought to began' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
