Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph illustrates the perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crimes such as, burglary , car crime and violent crime.
Overall, the graph demonstrates an increasing trend in perceived crimes in 2009/10 as compared to actual crimes that occurred 2009/10 which shows a decreasing trend.
According to the statistic mentioned above by 2009, around 15% were perceived as the victims of burglary and violent crimes which declined by 3% in 2010. However, only 3% burglary crimes took place in 2009 and showed a minimal increase by 1% in 2010. Furthermore, the present violent crimes rates rose from 3% to 4% between 2009 to 2011 respectively.
According to the data mentioned, the victims of car crime rates experienced an inclination by 21% in 2009 which declined sharply by 17% in 2011. Similarly, the actual crime rate remained constant at 4% between 2009 to 2011.
The passage summarizes that the crime rate is comparatively below than the actual thought of it that it could take place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have identified the main features of the graph, such as the disparity between perceived and actual crime rates. However, the report contains several inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, you mention a 21% inclination for car crime in 2009, but the graph shows a much higher figure. Additionally, your description of trends is sometimes confusing, such as claiming a 'decreasing trend' for actual crime when the data remains relatively stable or shows minor fluctuations. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the data points with the axes and legends to avoid misinterpretation. The overview is present but could be more precise in summarizing the overall relationship between the two variables.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'Similarly' to link ideas. However, the progression of information is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the jump between burglary and violent crime statistics feels abrupt. The concluding sentence is a bit vague and does not effectively synthesize the main findings. To reach a higher band, focus on creating smoother transitions between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'inclination', 'demonstrates', and 'comparatively'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'actual thought of it' is unnatural, and 'present violent crimes rates' is imprecise. There are also minor errors in phrasing, such as 'below than', which should be 'lower than'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and checking collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'around 15% were perceived as the victims of burglary' (which should be '15% of people perceived themselves as victims') and 'between 2009 to 2011' (which should be 'between 2009 and 2011'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions in time expressions. Proofreading for these small, recurring errors will help you achieve a higher score.
