Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits your ability to address all parts of the task. You have failed to provide a complete overview or report the main features of the graph. The response stops abruptly mid-sentence, meaning the data is not fully described or compared. To improve, you must ensure you cover all categories (car crime, burglary, violent crime) and provide a clear comparison between perceived and actual likelihood for each. You need to write a full summary that includes an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and detailed supporting data points to meet the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks a logical structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is a basic attempt to introduce the topic, the lack of paragraphing and the abrupt ending prevent the development of a coherent argument or report. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the flow of information is interrupted by the unfinished sentence. To improve, you should organize your report into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group related data together. Using linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'whereas' would help connect your ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'highest percentage of crime' and 'approximately same percentages' are functional but lack the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. You are using a very limited range of words, which prevents you from describing the data with the necessary nuance. To improve, focus on learning vocabulary related to trends and data comparison, such as 'proportion,' 'figure,' 'exceeds,' or 'significantly lower.' Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will help you convey the information more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains several grammatical issues, including awkward phrasing and incorrect preposition usage, such as 'perceived mostly with the more than 20%.' The sentence structures are simple and repetitive. Because the text is incomplete, it is difficult to assess your ability to use a wide range of complex structures. To improve, focus on using accurate sentence structures to describe data, such as 'The percentage of X was higher than that of Y.' Ensure you proofread for basic errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage to improve the overall clarity of your writing.
