Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the comparison between perceived and actual crime rates. However, the analysis is somewhat hindered by inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the claim that actual crime rates for burglary and violent crime were 'equal' at 3% is not fully supported by the visual data, and the description of the car crime trend is slightly confusing. While the overview identifies the main trend—that perceived crime is higher than actual crime—the supporting details lack precision. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited more accurately and that comparisons between categories are clearly distinguished.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'By contrast', and 'Similarly'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the phrasing 'the actual car crime proportion were also observed the similar pattern'. Additionally, there are issues with punctuation, particularly the misuse of commas and periods (e.g., 'burgalry., Moreover'). While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the flow is occasionally interrupted by these mechanical errors, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe trends and comparisons. There are some spelling errors, such as 'percieved' (repeatedly), 'burgalry', and 'share' (used incorrectly as a verb for 'remained'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations for describing data, such as 'a significant discrepancy' or 'remained consistent'. While the meaning is generally clear, the recurring spelling errors and limited range prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'the chances of car crimes remained share' and 'the percieved crime ratio were'. There are also errors in preposition usage and sentence construction, such as 'at the peak by 22%'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex structures are formed correctly without unnecessary words.
