Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar graph depicts the information regarding the percentages of the anticipation and actual possibility of being a victim of crimes. There are three categories of crimes; burglary. car crime and violent crime. These are compared for the year [redacted phone] and [redacted phone].
Overall, it id evident that perception of person being in danger is quite higher than the actual likelihood of it. Possibility of crimes remained same for two years; however, the perception about different crimes had been reduced slightly over time.
To begin with, about 15% of the population believed that burglary will happen in the area but actual chances of it to occured was no more than 2%. Moreover, in the year [redacted phone], more than 12% people thought that there would be incidents of bulgary but actual possibility of it happening is slightly above than the last year, which is almost 3%. Furthermore, in [redacted phone] most of the population anticipated that car crime would be highest, i.e. 21%. But, actual chances of its occuring is not more than 5%. On the contrary, next year, 18% of the people thought that area is not safe, as car crime would happen any time, but the percentage of it really happened is less than 5%, which is same as of the last year.
Further analyzing the data, in the year 2009, it can be seen that approximately 15% of the individuals percieved that violent crimes could occur, which is quite similar population as of bulgary, but rate of it could really happens is 3%. Similarly, in 2010, more than 12% people thought that there would be incidents of voilent crimes but actual possibility of it happening is slightly above than the last year, which is almost 3%.
All in all, beliefs and actual chances of happening of burglary and violent crimes are quite similar. But, thoughts about car crime and the situation where it can really happens is far higher than the rest of the crimes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons between crime types and years. You successfully highlighted the key trend: that perceived danger consistently outweighs actual likelihood. However, the analysis is slightly repetitive in its structure, and some data points are described with minor inaccuracies (e.g., stating the actual likelihood for burglary in 2010-2011 is 'slightly above' the previous year when the graph shows a slight decrease). To reach a higher band, ensure that data interpretation is precise and focus on grouping information more effectively to avoid listing every single figure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the contrary' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the comparison between 'thoughts' and 'situation' is slightly vague. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'anticipated', 'likelihood', and 'individuals'. There are some spelling errors ('bulgary', 'voilent', 'percieved') and minor collocation issues, such as 'rate of it could really happens'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure consistent accuracy in spelling technical terms related to the graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tense and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'actual chances of it to occured', 'rate of it could really happens', 'it id evident'). Punctuation is generally functional, but these recurring errors in basic grammar structures limit the score. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences through careful proofreading would significantly improve your performance in this criterion.
