Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to clearly identify the main features or make meaningful comparisons. The description of the data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that actual crime for burglary increased by 1 percent when the graph shows a different trend. The report lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the data points mentioned are frequently misstated or difficult to follow. To improve, you must ensure that the figures you report are accurate and that you provide a clear, logical summary of the most significant trends rather than listing isolated numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used incorrectly or in a mechanical way, such as 'To begins with' and 'moreover', which do not effectively link the sentences. The referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between perceived and actual crime. To improve, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'table graph' (it is a bar chart), 'highly at rate off', and 'taken led'. These errors often impede communication, as the reader struggles to understand the intended meaning of the data. To improve, you should practice using more precise terminology for describing charts and trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant discrepancy'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort the meaning. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are simple and often fragmented, such as 'where as actual crime in all four years was 4 and same also'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage.
