The graph below shows the perceived danger and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The bar chart demonstrates the percentages of the perception of danger and actual likelihood of being a victim of burglary, car crime and violent crime over the two periods of time from 2009 to 2011. Overall, car crimes showed the most significant rate in both perception and actual incidents in 2009 to 2019 and 2010 to 2011.

Regarding the perceived crime rate, car crimes decreased from about 21% in 2009/10 to 17% in 2010/11. Both burglary and violent crime had the same portion at approximately 15.5% in 2009/10. Similarly, both crimes dropped slightly to around 13% in 2010/11.

The car crime actual rate was at approximately to 4.5% in 2009/10, then decreased marginally at around 4% in 2010/11. On the contrary, burglary actual crime increased slightly from about 2% in 2009/10 to 2.5% in 2010/11. Moreover, the actual violent crime rate remained the same at around 3% over the 2 two periods of time.
