Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main features and provided some comparisons, the analysis is incomplete. You stopped abruptly after discussing car crime, failing to include data for violent crime or a concluding summary. To improve, ensure you cover all categories presented in the graph and provide a full overview. The under-length nature of the response means the task is only partially addressed, preventing a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'in contrast to', but the abrupt ending makes the overall structure feel unfinished. To improve, ensure that each category is clearly linked and that the essay flows logically to a conclusion. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of a complete analysis hinders the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used some appropriate vocabulary related to the task, such as 'illustrated', 'proportion', and 'victim of crime'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and incomplete sentences, such as 'making it the hi' (which appears to be a typo or incomplete thought). The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more varied reporting verbs and precise terminology to describe statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'Burglary victim' (which should be plural or possessive) and 'In case of car crime' (which lacks an article). While these errors do not generally impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Ensure that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound before moving on to the next point.
