Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the graph, such as the categories of crime and the comparison between perceived and actual likelihood. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For instance, the description of the data is often vague (e.g., 'above 15%', 'around 17%'), and the comparison between perceived and actual crime is not fully developed. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant trends. To improve, ensure that specific data points are cited more accurately and that the comparison between the two variables is more explicitly stated throughout the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and there is a lack of variety in linking words. For example, the repetition of 'in 2009 and 2010' and 'actual crime was' makes the flow feel somewhat disjointed. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') to connect ideas more fluidly and improve the logical progression of the information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'crime divided in three category' instead of 'crimes are divided into three categories' and 'respectivitily' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on the words provided in the prompt. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant disparity', and ensure accurate spelling throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the crime', 'the burglary'), incorrect verb forms ('crime divided'), and punctuation issues. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that sentence structures are grammatically sound. Practising the use of complex sentences with correct subordination will also help to improve the overall grammatical range.
