Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data but struggles with clarity and accuracy. While it identifies the three crime types, the description of the data is often confusing. For instance, the statement 'car crime was the highest crime in all the three cases' is factually incorrect based on the provided graph. Furthermore, the report fails to clearly distinguish between 'perceived' and 'actual' figures in a way that makes sense to the reader. The data points are mentioned, but the comparisons are weak and lack the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and ensuring that the figures cited accurately reflect the visual information provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To start with' and 'Moving towards', but they often feel mechanical or are used incorrectly, such as 'Moving towards, the statement Car crime...'. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the perceived and actual crime rates. The use of referencing is also problematic, as it is often unclear which data point is being discussed in relation to the others.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'crime person of doing a crime' and 'the people known as perceived' are non-standard and impede communication. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and the attempt to use more complex terms leads to errors, such as 'flunctuation' (spelling) and 'allover' (collocation). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using accurate terminology for describing trends and data, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'statistically significant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often obscure the intended meaning. There are issues with sentence structure, such as 'The bar, below illustrates...' (unnecessary comma) and 'actual 2009-10 and actual 2010-11 were the almost identical terms which were shown with 6% , 8%'. The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent throughout the text. While there is an attempt to use complex sentence structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar and punctuation. A focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
