Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph shows the perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime by crime type like burglary, car crime , violent crime. more information are given below.
According to graph, we can assume that the car crime is more then 20% on 2009/10 which is highest crime amongst all. burglary is at the lowest in compare to other. amongst the all car crime is more likelihood of being a victim of crime.
Both violin and burglary are somewhere same in perceived 2009/10 as well as they are equal in perceived 2010/11. in actual 2010/11 all of them are below 5%. in perceived 2010/11 burglary and violent crime are almost same.
To conclude we can assume that we can assume that burglary is the lowest crime amongst the all and car crime is the highest. burglary and violent are almost same in both perceived and actual likelihood of being victim of crime.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or a logical selection of data. While it mentions the three crime types, the analysis is superficial and lacks precision. For example, the statement 'car crime is more then 20%' is vague, and the comparison between 'perceived' and 'actual' likelihood is poorly developed. The report lacks a clear structure, and the data points are not accurately described or compared. The response relies on repetitive phrasing and fails to highlight the significant gap between perceived and actual danger, which is the central feature of the graph. Consequently, the response does not fully address the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'amongst the all' and 'we can assume'. Referencing is unclear, and the transition between ideas is disjointed. The conclusion merely repeats information already stated rather than synthesising the main trends. The lack of variety in linking words makes the text feel mechanical and difficult to follow in places. To improve, you should use a wider range of cohesive devices to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'violin' instead of 'violent' and 'more likelihood' instead of 'a higher likelihood'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data points effectively. The student relies on basic terms and struggles to use academic language appropriate for a data description task. Spelling errors, such as 'then' instead of 'than', further detract from the quality of the writing. A more varied and precise vocabulary is needed to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('more information are given'), incorrect comparative structures ('more then 20%'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
