Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar graph depicts the information about perceived danger as well as real likelihood of being a victim of wrongdoing which is analysis by the type of crime.

Overall, a significant decrease can be seen after a particular time in all three given crime types, whereas actual wrong doing were the least attempted by criminals over the years.

Burglary, in the term of perceived in the year of 2009/10 used to be 15%, which decreased to almost 3 per cent in next year. However, it noted roughly around 2 percent in actual 2009/10 , rose by one proportion in next year of 2010/11.

A considerable upward trend was followed by car crime which was accounted one-fifth of the whole in perceived 20019/10. Furthermore it declined to probably on 16% in 2010/11. while actual crime rate remained same in both years on almost 5 percent. Moreover, violent crimes were under 15 percent over the years. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, including comparisons between perceived and actual crime rates. However, there are inaccuracies in data interpretation. For example, you state that burglary 'decreased to almost 3 per cent' in 2010/11, whereas the graph shows it remained relatively stable or slightly increased. Additionally, the description of car crime trends is confusing, and the year '20019/10' is a clear typographical error. While you have identified the main trends, the lack of precision in reporting the data and the misinterpretation of some figures prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you double-check the data points against the visual information provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'Furthermore'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, and the use of linking words is occasionally mechanical or misused, such as 'in the term of perceived'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect the data points more smoothly. The paragraphing is acceptable, but the overall logical development is hindered by the inaccuracies in the data reporting.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You use terms like 'wrongdoing' and 'attempted by criminals', which are slightly unnatural in this context. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'rose by one proportion' instead of 'percentage point'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a marginal increase', and avoid informal or imprecise phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You make several grammatical errors, such as 'actual wrong doing were the least attempted' (subject-verb agreement), 'which were highest in that crime' (missing noun), and 'the perceived in 2009/10 were observed' (incorrect usage of adjective as noun). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve your writing.
