Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given graph illustrate the number of individual who encountered during the crime scenes in different illegal activities during the percieved and actual year between 2009 to 2011

To begin with, the highest frequency of criminal activity has been recorded in the Car offense which is almost about 29%. Therefore, other criminal activities such as violent and Burglary scenarios had witness a least amount of victims which is approximately 15% in the year 2009/10.

At last, the perceived year 2010/11 accounted more than 15% victims on crime such as Car Crash incidents whereas lower than 15% about 12% in other crime scenes such as thief and offensive acts.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to accurately interpret the graph. The student confuses 'perceived danger' with 'actual likelihood' and misidentifies the categories (e.g., referring to 'car accidents' instead of 'car crime'). The data points cited are often inaccurate or unclear, making it difficult for the reader to understand the trends. The overview is too brief and lacks a clear summary of the main features. To improve, you must carefully read the axis labels and legend to ensure you are reporting the correct data, and provide a more comprehensive overview of the key differences between perceived and actual crime rates.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is weak because the information is presented in a fragmented way. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Overall' are used, but they are often applied mechanically or inappropriately given the content. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs does not flow logically. The referencing is also unclear, as it is often difficult to determine which data point the student is referring to. Improving the logical flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used to connect related ideas would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'witness a least amount of victims' instead of 'recorded the lowest number of victims' and 'percieved year' instead of 'perceived danger'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles to use precise terminology related to data description. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations related to graphs, such as 'a significant proportion', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. Additionally, ensure that you use the correct terminology from the prompt rather than inventing new categories like 'car accidents'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given graph illustrate', 'Burglary scenarios had witness'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are awkward or grammatically incomplete. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tenses when describing data. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
