Student answer (Band 5.0)

The supplied bar chart contrasts imaginary and reality designated when the crime is done in a victim in relation of crime perceived during the year 2009 to 2011, with data quantified in percentages.

At first glance, it is readily apparent that car crime registers the highest figures across the board, whereas burglary records the most minimal engagement. Furthermore, a clear inverse relationship can be observed between perceived and actual felony occurred.

A closer inspection of the data reveals that actual crime committed with the help of a car claims the preeminent position, peaking at 22% in 2009. Trailing closely behind is Burglary and violent crime at 15% both. Combined, these two leading cohorts vastly outpace the remaining demographics. However, actually 7% is reported about car crime in 2009. Moreover, 3% are reported for violent crime as well as burglary during the year 2009.

In the stack contrast, the intermediate tiers-comprising car crime, burglary and violent crime done during the year 2010- exhibit moderate figures, hovering at 18%, 16% and 18% in terms of prominent crime. However, at the bottom of the hierarchy, 3%, 4% and 3.5% are accountable for actual reports according to the depicted result.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but struggles with clarity and accuracy. While you identify the main features, the interpretation of the data is often confusing. For instance, you describe an 'inverse relationship' but the data provided in the text does not clearly support this with precise comparisons. Furthermore, the description of the categories is inconsistent; you refer to 'car crime', 'burglary', and 'violent crime' as if they are the only categories, yet the data presentation is fragmented. The summary lacks a clear overview of the trends across the years, and the distinction between 'perceived' and 'actual' is not consistently maintained throughout the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'At first glance' and 'Furthermore', but they often feel mechanical or are used to connect ideas that do not logically follow one another. The transition between the description of 2009 and 2010 is abrupt, and the lack of clear subject-verb agreement or consistent terminology makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is often misused, which significantly impacts the clarity of the report. Phrases like 'imaginary and reality designated' and 'most minimal engagement' are unnatural and imprecise. You attempt to use academic vocabulary such as 'preeminent', 'cohorts', and 'hierarchy', but these are often used incorrectly in context. There is a reliance on repetitive structures, and the word choices frequently obscure the meaning of the data rather than clarifying it. To improve, focus on using precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('in relation of crime'), subject-verb agreement errors ('3% are reported'), and awkward sentence construction ('actual crime committed with the help of a car'). While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these often result in ungrammatical or confusing sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of hyphens and commas. You need to focus on basic sentence structure and ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
