Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The information is presented in a fragmented manner, making it difficult to follow the comparisons between perceived danger and actual likelihood. Several figures are misquoted or confusingly attributed, such as the claim that burglary actual likelihood was 3% without clarifying the year, and the description of trends is often inaccurate. The overview is too brief and fails to highlight the most significant trends, such as the consistent gap between perceived and actual danger across all categories. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and ensuring the data points cited are accurate and clearly linked to the correct category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a logical flow. While there are paragraph breaks, the progression of ideas within and between paragraphs is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often misused or placed awkwardly, such as 'By having cursory glance' and 'Moving further ahead'. The referencing is frequently unclear, leaving the reader to guess which data point refers to which crime type or year. The lack of clear signposting makes the report difficult to navigate. To improve, use more standard linking phrases and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping by crime type or comparing perceived versus actual data systematically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'most Highest percentage' (a redundancy) and 'actual 2010 or 2011 were found in low percentage found 3%'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the clarity of the report. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles to use precise terminology for describing trends or statistical data. To reach a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing graphs, such as 'significant disparity', 'consistently higher', or 'marginal fluctuation', and work on using these terms in grammatically correct contexts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'perceived in 2009 and 2010 is the most Highest'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with commas frequently placed incorrectly or missing. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences that are often poorly constructed. The frequent errors in basic grammar, such as tense usage and article omission, make the text difficult to read. A focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
